### About Markdown:

- I can write a page in Document Mode in Logseq using first level blocks as paragraphs and indented ones as lists;
- if I remember to press `t,o` shortcut to expand all collapsed blocks the `collapsed:: true property` is removed;
- if I don't reference any of those blocks I am free from `id::` properties too;
- I can remove the first two columns of characters from the file to turn first level blocks into paragraphs and get more "standard" Markdown files with a simple Unix command;
- I can concatenate that command to Pandoc that I use to export to PDF so I don't need to actually edit the MD files;

This is more complex to explain than practicing, so for me there is not a reason to split data and workflows between two apps that would be a huge disadvantage.

### About folders:

- Logseq frees me from having to choose a hierarchy, to stick to it and to decide where to place something;
- I can have as many hierarchies as I want to organize pages (and blocks and whatever) and the same element can be in multiple hierarchies;
- I can still organize MD files in folders independently from Logseq that will just respect my folder graph organization; this is useful if there is a set of pages I want to share between graphs (I can symlink a folder) or share a specific folder with other people etc.

Just to be clear mine was a joke about consistency when promoting the product you like

:undefined: This week's release just landed! We've got a new user interface with dozens of improvements, a faster app, new page menu, new embed menus, and performance wins across the board.

I don't remember if I already asked you, but what's the difference between Logseq's Document Mode and Obsidian? I don't see why one would open another app when in Logseq you can just press `t,d` to hide bullet points and write paragraphs of text in blocks like in any "longform writing" app.

The chem trail "conspiracy theory" was the belief that governments were using stratospheric aerosol injection to alter weather and climate patterns. This has been denied for over a decade, though the patents for this process are even older.

Scientism American says the U.N. now states chem trails should be regulated (controlled) by U.N.
They use flowery words to obfuscate, and go full Appeal to Authority fallacy by using the word "experts" 100 times, but the meaning is the same.

proprietary/online products: *exist*

users: "better keep notes local and in a standard format!"

users: "right, but also using tools is important for the same reasons, Obsidian is not FOSS, on the other hand there is this new app called Logseq..."

Obsidian users: "it's nice that everyone can use what suit them the best :)"

@post interestingly, Microsoft tried to get a patent for "using XML to store productivity software data" in many jurisdictions (including here in NZ). StarOffice had used XML well prior to Microsoft getting around to it, so we used it as an example of prior art when contesting it in NZ... MSFT pushed ahead with other patent applications in other jurisdictions, assuming that - despite prior-art being universal - there wouldn't be organised oppositions everywhere. MSFT is unethical. @lwriemen

@post yes, it was StarDivision's StarOffice prior to being released by Sun Microsystems as #FOSS. Scott McNealy acquired StarDivision when he worked out that was more cost-effective than paying for MS Office for all of Sun's staff. Plus he made it #FOSS because he knew a community would help to maintain it, it gave them great publicity, and was a solid way to mess with Microsoft. Heady days. @lwriemen

Actually OpenOffice (whose Libreoffice is a fork) predates MS Office.

It's ironic that you mention the Fediverse and decentralization but then suggest to improve Mastodon ecosystem with clients and tools: this is a form of centralization for the Fediverse.

The Fediverse started way before Mastodon with other federation protocols, Mastodon supported one of them, then ActivityPub was introduced as the latest iteration and Mastodon moved to it.

Then a new generation of AP-compatible services were introduced including PeerTube, WriteFreely, a WordPress plugin (posting on Medium? Another paradox if you ask me), Pleroma, Misskey, Lemmy, PixelFed and so on.

Then there are other federation protocols that are still considered part of the Fediverse by many, for example Matrix mainly used for instant messaging.

When an object shoots past you at nearly the speed of light, it looks *rotated*.

This has been known for a while, but the famous topologist Jack Morava found a new formula relating the amount of rotation to the Mercator projection. And he's hoping this will make him rich.

(He's got a sense of humor.)

I wanted to mention #espanso, an open-source cross-platform text expander I use daily. It has a complete feature set, with features not provided by many of its closed-source alternatives. Highly recommended!

You are lucky, Copyright violation is one of the favourite excuses to censor content on social media.

In Italy we even have public TV channels (we have a tax in the electric bill to fund them) but if you upload 10 seconds owned by them in a long YouTube video to discuss the content, the video is removed and you get a strike (3 strikes = channel removed). This happen way more likely if you are a real political dissident.

Add to this the strikes for "fake news", "bigotry" and even "explicit sexual content" caused by mass report and you can have your channel closed pretty quickly. Same with Facebook and Twitter.

This is why I said data mining and censorship are orthogonal, though recently Google announced a system meant to predict where a "fake news" would come from by analyzing users' data to block it in advance.
