@Mcx83 @donatacolumbro I can clearly see that China is the big problem here.
@rastinza - the SiO₄ tetrahedra in quartz are less densely packed than the tetrahedra I showed in part (1/n). I imagine that any packings of tetrahedra in nature that have already been seen are no denser than that one.
@johncarlosbaez It is a highly interconnected network, this makes is much less dense than what it could be.
I have not worked in this field, but I do imagine there are materials which are much more packed than this.
I imagine nobody ever observed packings denser than that, but there may be different types of packing available or some materials might be designed specifically to increase the packing.
@johncarlosbaez Oh, damn. Could this packing problem be improved by experimental findings? I know we discuss packing a lot in chemistry, but that's mostly from the observation of crystal structures. And generally they use spherical models for the atoms. I know nothing about it, but I guess someone might be studying the packing of some compound forming tetrahedras like quartz, maybe a little bit less interconnected.
@johncarlosbaez Wow, extremely cool! Though I'll give it to Aristotle, with the things he might have had to pack, such a density does equate complete packing.
@xtaldave How did they even come up with the idea? Next time I'll add vim among the authors, after all its contribution was fundamental in the writing process and we could argue he even did 100% of it.
@Yaku Ma gli indirizzi mail supportano unicode? Perché ci piacerebbe un bel 🐗@yaku.com
@aljazeera Nice article, but I would not equate companies exploiting their workers and the internet being more and more controlled by commercial companies.
These are not the same thing, in some cases there is a correlation between the two but this doesn't mean they're the same thing.
Moreover, it feels a bit of a stretch to imply that chatgpt is being developed with the objective to commercially dominate the internet; especially when it is being developed by a non profit organization.
@MarkHanson Definitely the UI could be improved.
Today felt very productive:
1) Got a response back on a paper that we could immediately address and correct, so I did. Here's hoping it's over 🤞
2) Got a grant back down to the word limit (started the day at 1.2x the allowed length!) 📝
3) Saw some cute fruit flies under a microscope 🔬
4) Wrote this Toot 🐘
That's basically #science right #ScienceMastodon ? 👨🏽🔬
@MarkHanson Today I felt very productive:
1) Got an email I should have received months ago, didn't reply.
2) Got a grant up to 5x the word limit (started at 0.8x the allowed length)
3) Stayed overtime to work on some stuff unrelated to my job, but in the office I focus more.
4) Met some colleagues I didn't know.
I'm pretty sure this is basically #science
@rastinza @erinnacland @academicchatter @alexh Hi there! "I hope they'll add a chemistry journal" -> Peer Community In is managed by scientists. Any scientist can initiate the creation of a PCI in a field not already covered. Please read our blog post "Steps in the creation of a new PCI" and do not hesitate to contact us! https://peercommunityin.org/2019/05/21/steps-in-the-creation-of-a-new-pci/
Hey @rastinza, a platinum/diamond #OpenAccess journal with chemistry focus can be found here: https://www.beilstein-journals.org/
I already published there, and can recommend.
@erinnacland @PeerCommunityIn @academicchatter @alexh
@SpaceGeek
@pepperonibookmark Why just reply "yes" to an email, when you can use a highly elaborate mathematical model to reply positively in 250 words?
@freemo I cannot believe these are serious comments. I hope this is just cherry picking some trolls.
@erinnacland @PeerCommunityIn @academicchatter @alexh Wonderful! I hope they'll add a chemistry journal.
I don't like the fact that you cannot easily browse from one journal to the others, but I guess that's not something you do often anyways.
Italian, MSc in chemistry specialized in cheminformatics and QSAR.
I'm interested in cooking and building stuff.
I love traveling, I lived in India, China, Slovenia, Poland and Spain.
Currently working in Spain in the field of genomics; and doing a PhD in Drug Development using Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence.
Don't take what I say as an insult, I have no bad intentions and I'm open to talk about it.
Don't star my toots, I find that often useless: if you liked it send a reply.
Consider boosting the toots, it's the only real way in which stuff is propagated through mastodon.
