@erinnacland @MatteoCarandini @academicchatter Sci-Hub has allowed this to happen, now we have to find a viable alternative to Sci-Hub.

@sladner @rhgrouls @qui_oui @erinnacland There is a function in Zotero to do that semi automatically.

Starting 2023, four universities are pausing or ending their Elsevier subscription due to exorbitant pricing.

Elsevier's subscription was costing them ~10% of their Libraries' entire budget.

"Elsevier’s prices have increased each year and have outpaced inflation"...this is despite Elsevier having the highest profit margins of virtually any other industry or publisher.

@marghera Looks interesting, I'll see if I can find something like this. Right now I don't wish to invest a bunch of money in this, as long as they grow it's fine, but if I stumble on something like this I'll think about it.

@errantscience Until you start dissolving piranhas in piranha solution.

@marghera I got some oyster mushrooms.
I guess I could just buy a plastic box and use that to control the environment, but I'm quite unsure how an heated pad might help since it would still need ventilation and the room containing it is not heated.

Outside temperature during the day is around 10°C and I guess room temperature might be slightly above that.
Do you believe it may grow at these temperatures? I'm not really aiming for the best yield, as long as I get something out of it it's fine.

@Rajumisra @Lost_World Originally it was to feature much more green areas and a well though out service distribution over the territory.
They had to change that because of the growing population and the big problem of Barcelona being that it is surrounded by mountains and thus cannot expand its dimensions.

@libreleah I like rsync very much for backups, but for actual syncing I prefer unison which simplifies a lot the procedure.

@Durruti Why was she accused of forming a criminal association?
Being antifascist doesn't relieve you from crimes: if you organize squads to go find and beat up fascists, I would argue that is a criminal association in fact.

My apartment is quite humid, thus I decided to buy some mushrooms to grow in here.
I'm hoping the temperatures will be high enough since I have not heating...
Let's see if I get to eat any!

@Rajumisra @Lost_World A pity they ruined the original plan... but still amazingly came out.

@GustavinoBevilacqua Eh, sarebbe da risalire al modello e se c'è la documentazione scrivere un driver.
Non dovrebbe essere troppo difficile.

@kevinteljeur @maddiefuzz I don't know, the camera of my phone, which is quite a cheap one, makes pretty good pictures.
Much better than the pictures I used to take with a dedicated digital camera before that, or with analogical cameras before that.
But you have to put this into context: what's the objective of taking the picture?

I just snap a picture every once in a while and thus having a dedicated camera that takes better pictures has no real value to me.
Modern mobile phones provide a huge improvement over older consumer camera models and you don't need to buy an additional device.
On the other end, if you wish to work as a photographer or pick it as a hobby, clearly you won't be satisfied by the phone camera when knowing there's a better alternative.

I think that current phone cameras are great, even too good for the common person using it.
I'd prefer a reduction in the quality of phone cameras in order to lower the price of phones.

Indeed, pictures might generate erroneous beliefs in people looking at them, but I don't believe the solution is to give everyone the huge camera. I believe this set of pictures by @maddiefuzz to be a good representation of the distortions that happen while taking a picture.

@collette @eviloatmeal @fritzcokid @roadskater @SulliiRafi @MostlyHarmless I was in China, near Shenzen. I was building intercoms on the assembly line. You work a lot, but actually do earn a bit of money to save: the company was providing food and housing at a cheap price. Not that I had a lot of time to spend that money, I was working 14 hours a day and after the last shift I'd just go to sleep.

@diorama Those keep failing all the time, I don't have time for that.

My company internet access blocks youtube, which I need for my job, and not porn websites...
Changed the dns and finally I can follow my youtube courses.
Apparently they don't care which dns server you use.

@steveumstead It doesn't say the software is in beta.
I believe the biggest problem is not the software itself, which clearly isn't perfect, but how it is sold.
It is sold as autonomous driving and that is how people use it, which is clearly dangerous.
It should be sold and used as a driving assistant, not as a full replacement of the driver.
