@eviloatmeal @fritzcokid @roadskater @SulliiRafi @MostlyHarmless You don't need billions to eat healthy, actually rich people generally don't eat so well and any person who earns a little bit of money and isn't starving can eat better than them.
I'll tell you, when I was working in a factory in China at the inn we were eating quite good food, and that was free of charge.
But yes, being healthy doesn't mean you'll be rich...

It's the good old correlation is not causation.

@lucifargundam I thought these were substituted benzene rings being displayed on a terminal.
Now, that would be a cool idea!

This year only half the doctoral thesis written in the University of Santiago de Compostela were in English.
42 of these were in Galician, which might make sense considering 44 of these thesis were written by Spanish students working in the fields of arts and humanities, thus they might have written stuff about Galician literature in Galician.

This fact to me highlights the poor aperture of Spanish academics to the outside world and plummets the value of their work.
Some time ago, I was talking with a professor about a possible collaboration and he sent me a PhD thesis of one of his students to give me an overview of what they've been doing. This thesis was in Spanish, I didn't even read it. I believe that if you feel you've done a good work you'll try to share it with other people as much as possible, publishing a thesis in Spanish makes me think you do not value your work enough to make it accessible to other researchers.
I'm disappointed by the Spanish researchers because of this.
Indeed, lots of good researchers are Spanish and I've read plenty of good articles with Spanish authors; however, I believe that this kinds of things lowers the value of their research.

*Why are walks in the coniferous forest so useful?*

Scientists have proven that the air in a coniferous forest is practically sterile (no more than 200-300 harmful bacteria per cubic meter). A walk in a coniferous forest relieves stress and nervous tension, tones the body, activating gas exchange in the lungs and, as a result, improves breathing. Such walks are vital for heavy smokers and office workers.

Wow-- "The US has approved use of the world's first vaccine for honey bees. It was engineered to prevent fatalities from American foulbrood disease, a bacterial condition known to weaken colonies by attacking bee larvae..... It works by introducing an inactive version of the bacteria into the royal jelly fed to the queen, whose larvae then gain immunity." #bees #pollinators #insects #animals #environment

@danielcolquitt @xtaldave People start a PhD at 21 in the UK? That's impressive!
I started my first year of bachelor at 19, and that's the normal age in Italy...

@danielcolquitt @xtaldave I see, it's good to hear things are improving over there. Don't get me wrong, I heard much worse things: I'm now in Spain and here many PhD students don't get any money at all.
I'd never accept such conditions though: assuming a person doing a PhD is supposedly smart they can easily find a better paying job.
I've been lucky as I got employed to do a PhD, thus I get both the best of an employee and of a student.

@North Nice, these guys have some money to spend
I'll take a look, I'd like to be able to point people who wish to make drugs for themselves to good formative resources, especially if they focus on safety.

@xtaldave @danielcolquitt Does that mean you don't get a retirement for those years?
I don't know what's the price of life in the UK, but I heard it's quite expensive, I'm sure you can survive with these 1400£ a month, but probably not afford a good life.

@danielcolquitt Looks like a nice project
Is this a common salary for a PhD in the UK? It feels extremely low.

@GustavinoBevilacqua Lascia stare, chissà quando torno e comunque chissà come me li porto in Spagna... Ho già fin troppe cianfrusaglie che dovrei trasferire

@GustavinoBevilacqua Dannazione, sono pure in Italia, ma riparto domattina...
Peccato!

@lonepair My boss has ha virtual reality thing... Is this available for the common researcher? Not saying I'm going to spend whole days, but wasting some time while waiting for my results running around molecules would be fun!

@merpderp Wait, you can publish this idiotic setups you do when you have no money?
These guys have no idea, I can set you up with a whole lab for less than 500€, spectrophotometer included!

@SteinbockGroup I'm not sure what you mean by that. Generally the title is not included and the name is shortened to just the initials. Surnames are present in full length and are generally correct. Spelling errors do happen sometimes, but I didn't see it that often. Italians tend to cite other Italians a lot, so this might play a role.

@SteinbockGroup I doubt chatgpt will be able to solve this problem.
