@TranimeGirl @alex I don't particularly want to be on Gab, but my host got banned in a fediverse shitlist early on because the founder asked for clarification -- one single message -- about why he should sanction someone who got reported.

I don't care to deal with chat nodes that don't allow free speech in, and I don't want to deal with anyone who hates me before they talk to me.

I fear that the Fediverse causes people to generalize others based on whatever instance they're a member of. The truth is there are many reasons a person may join a website. It formalizes the tribalism that is already causing so many problems online.

Overall I think the advantages of the Fediverse far outweigh the disadvantages. The disadvantages are just challenges to solve, not necessarily inherent parts of the platform.

And it's also pretty fucking gross. At least with diversity casting you can just say you're giving the people what you think they want. When you're kowtowing to an authoritarian regime so you can get those Chinese bucks... fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

I was watching some of the recent JRE episode with Melissa Yen. I completely forgot that Ancient One was supposed to be a male Tibetan Monk. I had assumed they had cast Tilda Swinton to be woke and representative and all that, but apparently the real reason was to appease the Chinese Communist Party, because Tibet is one of those areas that the CCP hasn't managed to destroy the culture of and fully integrate (sinicize) yet.

In hindsight it makes sense. People have been complaining about Hollywood whitewashing forever, and replacing a Tibetan with a white woman really isn't woke.
