I enjoy things around information theory (and data compression), complexity theory (and cryptography), read hard scifi, currently work on weird ML (we'll see how it goes), am somewhat literal minded and have approximate knowledge of random things. I like when statements have truth values, and when things can be described simply (which is not exactly the same as shortly) and yet have interesting properties.
I live in the largest city of Switzerland (and yet have cow and sheep pastures and a swimmable lake within a few hundred meters of my place :)). I speak Polish, English, German, and can understand simple Swiss German and French.
If in doubt, please err on the side of being direct with me. I very much appreciate when people tell me that I'm being inaccurate. I think that satisfying people's curiosity is the most important thing I could be doing (and usually enjoy doing it). I am normally terse in my writing and would appreciate requests to verbosify.
I appreciate it if my grammar or style is corrected (in any of the languages I use here).

@rysiek Yup. I think that trying to put it into those categories harms the future ability to speak precisely, which I value perhaps more highly than people do on median.
Somewhat nitpicky answer: yes, if it has negative social consequences for the target (imagine very sarcastic praise).
I'm curious about your opinion on whether slander can be considered a privacy issue, because I think that the source of harm here is more similar to source of harm in slander than in privacy violations (not just typical privacy violations, but the way I'd delineate privacy violations).
Does slander violate the target's privacy? I would say no, that it's a different kind of harm of social nature.

@sgf I didn't notice this happening after past explosions. Did it or do you think that his behaviour's changing over time in this direction (or something else that I'm missing)?

I'm curious what you mean by "opposite" of poetry. (I can see how attempts to get a language model to create poetry are missing a large part of its concept, but I don't see the qualities that would make it opposite of it.)

Would you say the same if the fine scaled linearly with income (or some combination of income and wealth)? (I'm curious if there's something still broken in those models.)

There are also cases like http://lists.openstreetmap.ch/pipermail/talk-ch/2023-March/011832.html where someone keeps doing unhelpful changes _at a large scale_. ISTM that OSM's anti-abuse mechanisms either are poor, or take no feedback.

Wydaje mi się, że Polska może z dość sporą szansą powodzenia żądać ekstradycji swojego obywatela z kraju, w którym obywatelem nie jest. Bez art. 111 KK w oczach polskiego wymiaru sprawiedliwości taki człowiek by w pełni podlegał polskiemu kodeksowi karnemu. KK można zmienić ustawą, więc taki człowiek chyba podlega polskiemu prawu?
@luckytran My first impression upon reading the paper is that likely one of the reasons is that Black physicians move to counties where Black people have higher life expectancy. Is there something in the study that tries to exclude that explanation? (FWIW the limitations section drily says "The associations identified between Black representation and the study outcomes do not imply causation")
@don@microblog.social Es gibt zwei sehr unterschiedliche Fälle: eine plötzliche Wassermangel (wegen eine Katastrofe oder einen Ausfall) oder eine langsamer eintretende Mangel (vorhersagbar einige Tage im Voraus).
Man kann übliche PWRs herunterfahren bis ~1% normaler Leistung innerhalb ein paar Tagen. Dann wird man nicht mehr als ~2m^3 von Wasser per Stunde per jeden 100MW von (thermisch) Normalleistung brauchen (ich nehme hier an, dass die Energie wird ausschiesslich an die Verdämpfung gespendet -- in Realität ein Teil wird vom Luftkonvektion weggenommen).

Re "tak dobrze jak właściciel ja ogarnie" -- tak, ale ogarnianie w przypadku statycznych stron sprowadza się do wyprodukowania poprawnego HTML i niewiele więcej, (chcą żebyś im dał treść po sftp iirc), więc to chyba nie jest coś czego chcesz unikać.
Mimo to rozumiem obawy.
@chlopmarcin @kravietz beef.moe było instancją mastodona do ubiegłego roku, a na borg.social było coś czego nie rozpoznaję (wedle Internet Archive); niestety obie te rzeczy się niezbyt ładnie archiwizują. Jest możliwym, że treść i właściciel innych się też zmieniły.
