I have no clue what the problem you're describing could be there, but this reminded me of very old DMUs that did have such a problem: they needed air pressure to engage or disengage final drives (in forward or reverse), and they couldn't be towed with them engaged (because that would damage the gearbox that was receiving no oil flow). There's the whole area of dealing with signals with high carrier frequency (compared with bandwidth), where it's not very practical to digitize the signal at least until you've frequency-shifted it. If you do any beamforming, you need to do it in analog realm too. Sometimes doing more in the analog realm lets one get away with e.g. 1-bit ADC.
There's the area of regulating power. While for most small applications you can find ready-made switching regulators, and rules of thumb regarding decoupling, understanding of the internals lets one realize e.g. what does it take to get the whole system to oscillate in a divergent fashion. Same understanding (and ability to do something atypical) also helps with energy efficiency.
(Note that there are scaling laws here: things that were once problematic on low frequencies on very long cables are very similar to problems that you get from high frequencies on very short cables. We don't necessarily deal with them in the same way, but the area of things that work badly is more similar than I'd expect before I realized that.)

NixOS supports installing Firefox extensions as part of the OS (as in, so that the extensions come from the same build system/package manager as the rest of the OS). It makes use of the fact that you can disable extension signature verification in ESR versions of firefox. https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/doc/builders/packages/firefox.section.md describes the thing in more detail.
Sadly, the standard package repository for NixOS doesn't have the extensions themselves (maybe it should?), so one can't benefit from the slower uptake etc.
@malcircuit Nit(?): There are things in nature that are precise and repeatable: first example that comes to my mind is that all electrons are identical, second is that differences in energy between different excitation levels are always nearly the same.

I can't think of any book to recommend, other than maybe statistics textbooks for nonmathematicians.
There's are two things that come to mind: formulating questions precisely and concepts in simple statistics and hypothesis testing. Former I'd expect judges to be good at anyway (maybe modulo not having the expectation that things that should always be true should actually literally always be true). In later I'd expect the most important part to be understanding of distinctions between concepts that are tied together by base rates (e.g. conditional probabilities in different directions).

To jak duże skutki ma głosowanie to jeden problem (~10^-7 szansy na wpłynięcie osobiście na skład sejmu/senatu iirc). Stwierdzenie, że głosowanie jest niewarte zachodu z powodu mizernych skutków ma sens.
Natomiast stwierdzenie, że głosowanie nie ma sensu, bo nie ma na kogo głosować, jest IMO wynikiem jakiegoś dziwnego przeświadczenia, że głosuję się "na kogoś". To, że karta do głosowania tak wygląda niewiele znaczy; ważne jest to, jakie są skutki oddania głosu. Oczywiście (patrz wyżej) można uważać, że skutki są bez znaczenia (albo dlatego że szansa na wpłynięcie jest mała albo dlatego że skład sejmu/senatu jest mało istotny); jednak jeśli ktoś uważa, że skład parlamentu jest istotny i ma potencjalne składy, które by wolał od innych, to nie jest prawdą, że nie ma na kogo głosować: zawsze może zagłosować tak, żeby zwiększyć szansę tych składów które woli[^].
[^] To nie jest prosty wybór, bo (a) wymaga założeń na temat innych głosujących (b) wymaga porównywania większej szansy na dobry wynik z mniejszą szansą na jeszcze lepszy.

Grzejniki podczerwone nie służą do ogrzewania pomieszczeń, ale ogrzewania ludzi w zimnych pomieszczeniach. (Stereotypowy przykład dobrego ich zastosowania to kościoły: dużo ludzi bez czapek.) Ogrzewają one ~tylko przez promieniowanie, więc: (a) tylko rzeczy które widzą (b) praktycznie wcale nie ogrzewają powietrza (wyłącznie poprzez ogrzewanie np. ściany która ogrzewa powietrze). W sypialni będą one co najwyżej ogrzewać górne połowy głów, więc warto się upewnić, że są na nie skierowane.

It's way more messy for CJK due to Han unification: given that you actually want to draw the "same" pictogram differently across different languages, you need to pick a font depending on the language. :(
I enjoy things around information theory (and data compression), complexity theory (and cryptography), read hard scifi, currently work on weird ML (we'll see how it goes), am somewhat literal minded and have approximate knowledge of random things. I like when statements have truth values, and when things can be described simply (which is not exactly the same as shortly) and yet have interesting properties.
I live in the largest city of Switzerland (and yet have cow and sheep pastures and a swimmable lake within a few hundred meters of my place :)). I speak Polish, English, German, and can understand simple Swiss German and French.
If in doubt, please err on the side of being direct with me. I very much appreciate when people tell me that I'm being inaccurate. I think that satisfying people's curiosity is the most important thing I could be doing (and usually enjoy doing it). I am normally terse in my writing and would appreciate requests to verbosify.
