@levisan huh. if so, wonder what adapters would fare better! the ones i got are well-reviewed, but they didnt cost a lot and arent from an established brand: amzn.to/3XdGfZI

back from a few days at long point on lake erie. crazy how one day it’ll have waves over your head, and the next it looks like this!

i’m told the company that owns the building has been putting up similar properties in bankruptcy sale proceedings which then get torn down in favour of condo mid-rises. would be a shame if that’s what happens here!

there was a film shoot of some kind happening — an early 20th century japanese period piece, it seems. military prison set, i think

got a tour of the millworks in dundas, ontario the other day from a friend who has studio space there. so many interesting nooks and features in there!

@levisan boy i feel like you’re younger than me but ive got no idea what this is!

if your USB-C cables keep burning out, you probably just need one that can handle higher voltage, right? a friend of mine uses android auto to take calls for hours a day while driving, and his phone burns through cable after cable. i said he should try a thunderbolt 4 cable. good idea? any better ones?

@levisan yeah, i wish someone more knowledgeable would chime in about how this could be. is it because i have inferior USB-C adaptors or is this an actual flaw in the USB-C spec design or maybe its macOS implementation?

finally got my copy of the sibley guide to trees!

it was recommended by a forest scientist (over on bsky) when i asked how i could educate myself and be able to ID trees while i'm out and about.

last night i spent HOURS troubleshooting this zoom L-20 mixer/audio interface’s logic input setup (on M1 mac). then first thing this morning, i tried turning the USB-C adaptor upside down and plugging it back in… and presto! now it all works. (happy/angry)

@vmstan ok, was about to mute all the terms having to do with this US election cycle, but i’m glad i caught this!

@corruptian well it was a junta in bangladesh, just not an extremely oppressive one (as long as you weren’t a journalist or socialist and had money for bribes you were prob ok). i was a kid during the student uprising that brought down gen. ershad, and i remember watching a street gun battle between political party supporters from the roof of our church building in chittagong. and a house across the street from ours was burned around the same time bc a naval officer connected to the gov lived there. it was a more relaxed time for us though since there was less chance of foreigners/christians being lynched (vs during iraq war just before)

and went into having just discovered him tonight via this youtube mini-doc on him. an unusual story! youtube.com/watch?v=dB0mHcC-dx

@corruptian you thought of sanders as close to communism? "we should be more like scandinavia in some ways" doesn't really count to me. he seems less authoritarian minded than trump or clinton from where i see it. (though i've never been under communist dictatorship, as a kid i did live in bangladesh during their pro-western military dictatorship and it was still much better than communist countries were at the time, i'd say.)

@corruptian i try not to say so too loudly since i don’t want to be that guy, but i bet bernie would’ve won against trump and ended up a super impactful and popular president

@corruptian to me it felt more like personality differences (and maybe campaign design differences) than real policy differences, but it’s been a while

@corruptian huh, clinton eh? i would’ve thought she’d be similar to him in terms of that
