@lightweight parallels between this article about the value of in-house expertise at Twitter and things that you and others have said about how govt should directly employ its own tech experts https://danluu.com/in-house/
Web search is a form of artificial intelligence that attempts to mimic the biological-informatic process of human sensemaking by replacing this activity with a computationally automated facsimile which misses the point that the “results” of sensemaking are the doing of the activity itself (and not its final conclusions) and that the meaning that is acquired through sensemaking is inherently subjective and contextual and thus can’t be outsourced to an objective computer.
Honestly it was Matrix Revolutions where the Matrix trilogy went to shit. Reloaded is awesome end-to-end. I'm 30 minutes into Revolutions and it's entirely free-floating dialog devoid of concrete plot points or cybernetic metaphors, with only a single short-lived action scene whose only gimmick is people walking on the ceiling with a stock Hollywood "everyone has guns accidentally pointed at each other" deus ex machina ending. Uninspired schlock.
How can we teach people to do things like install and update software, maintain their own devices, or write scripts, in such a way that they experience lots of little successes that generate motivation to keep learning, rather than a series of dispiriting failures to reach a complex end goal?
@torproject whoever you hire, plz make sure they address the censorship problem in the #Tor channel on the #oftc #IRC network, where people get kicked out for mentioning flaws in #TorBrowser.
@bojkotiMalbona @dallin @TheOuterLinux Yes to connect over tor you must have an account already…
The problem with tor is that 99% of spam comes from it. Requiring a valid account prior to connect from tor is a valid decision from them.
Android rant
A stock Android free of vendor bloatware still has its irritances (ignoring the privacy issues addressed by running un-Googled versions). For example, the stock Calculator can't really be uninstalled! Why! I will install the type of calculator app I want! But no, the stock app pops up after every reboot, and I have to uninstall it again.
Who knows what else abounds in this morass!
Mozilla’s now director of public policy once asked me, with a straight face, why I was giving them a hard time and holding Mozilla to a higher standard: “we’re just another Silicon Valley tech company.”
But that’s not what you tell people publicly, is it, Mozilla?
Still, it’s time y’all got this.
Mozilla is a half-billion-dollar for-profit corporation – whose CEO makes >$3M/yr – that has a foundation do its PR.

@QOTO I know some colour-blind people IRL, so I was wondering if the Mastodon web front-end is easy enough to use for people like them. Say, the 'Boost' button changing colour on clicking it.
BTW, is there a theme suited for such use? That way, the other themes can worry about colour-aware aesthetics only.
