FEDIBLOCK NOW

@vandys @thegibson Unfortunately not, at least not from what I can see. Won't stop intolerant lefties from blocking it tho, a lotta the #Fediblock crowd blocks #Gab no knowing that they defederated and are never coming back to the #Fediverse lol

I'm not really much of a musician in any sense but I just want to point out that people dont realize how even to reach a basic level in most instruments is a monumental task, particularly string instruments. It can take days or weeks just to make a single half decent note out of the thing. The number of man hours it takes of investment to actually play enjoyable music on any level is astounding. Musicians deserve a lot of respect no matter where they are in their journey, just saying.

@zleap @freemo nobody comes out of prisons reformed. they're just storage facilities where people end up getting psychologically broken, probably injured and improperly healed, institutionalized, then abandoned back to society in worse shape than they started.

it's about as moronic and having people memorize answers for 10 years and then calling them smart.

websites that take measures to disable copy-and-pasting: i still see you, and i still hate you.

I really wish OSS communities would stop defaulting to Discord or Slack. Your software isn’t a lifestyle. I don’t want to live with the goddamn thing. I want a forum I can visit once in a while, not to take out an attention mortgage.

@lightweight parallels between this article about the value of in-house expertise at Twitter and things that you and others have said about how govt should directly employ its own tech experts danluu.com/in-house/

You know you're in mental health recovery when...

It's 4:20 in the afternoon and you're eating breakfast in bed, slugging lukewarm coffee, reading Transmetropolitan and wondering how in the hell it all came down to this.

Facebook is down.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Decentralised social networks with nomadic identity and near realtime mirrors/snapshots. It's not just a good idea. It's a bloody great idea.

Web search is a form of artificial intelligence that attempts to mimic the biological-informatic process of human sensemaking by replacing this activity with a computationally automated facsimile which misses the point that the “results” of sensemaking are the doing of the activity itself (and not its final conclusions) and that the meaning that is acquired through sensemaking is inherently subjective and contextual and thus can’t be outsourced to an objective computer.

Honestly it was Matrix Revolutions where the Matrix trilogy went to shit. Reloaded is awesome end-to-end. I'm 30 minutes into Revolutions and it's entirely free-floating dialog devoid of concrete plot points or cybernetic metaphors, with only a single short-lived action scene whose only gimmick is people walking on the ceiling with a stock Hollywood "everyone has guns accidentally pointed at each other" deus ex machina ending. Uninspired schlock.

How can we teach people to do things like install and update software, maintain their own devices, or write scripts, in such a way that they experience lots of little successes that generate motivation to keep learning, rather than a series of dispiriting failures to reach a complex end goal?

@torproject whoever you hire, plz make sure they address the censorship problem in the #Tor channel on the #oftc #IRC network, where people get kicked out for mentioning flaws in #TorBrowser.

@bojkotiMalbona @dallin @TheOuterLinux Yes to connect over tor you must have an account already…

The problem with tor is that 99% of spam comes from it. Requiring a valid account prior to connect from tor is a valid decision from them.

Android rant

A stock Android free of vendor bloatware still has its irritances (ignoring the privacy issues addressed by running un-Googled versions). For example, the stock Calculator can't really be uninstalled! Why! I will install the type of calculator app I want! But no, the stock app pops up after every reboot, and I have to uninstall it again.

Who knows what else abounds in this morass!

Agree. The notion that because a resource has been bought, for use without consequences, is naive. Analogous to gardeners that believe private property is more important than holistic water management.
You could use 'aspects' within diaspora, rooms in matrix. Personally, use hubzilla to share specific content to specific audiences.
Yes King Leopold of Belgium had barely started the rape of central Africa. Interesting tyres...
