Lol, zapped into the match in the last 10 minutes and saw the Dutchies were with 2-0 behind. I had to laugh. I guess our orange craze will be over soon. ;)
Well, we can continue with F1 and Tour de France, I suppose.

@mur2501

You have no idea just how far that obsession goes... I have seen women in executive dress riding bikes to work in the snow without even flinching.

@trinsec

@freemo @trinsec
Bicycle is a symbol of poverty here in most people's mind :ablobderpy:

@mur2501

In the netherlands poverty is how you know someone is part of the elite, lol.

@trinsec

@freemo @mur2501 Lol. Our prime minister bikes to job. ;)

I also have 4 bikes. :P

@trinsec

hahaha yea i saw the videos of him biking to work... only country where a politician can show off by riding a bike :)

@mur2501

@freemo @mur2501 Show off? What do you mean?! It's perfectly normal!

@trinsec

Thats why its showing off.. its the PMs way of saying "look at me I am a perfectly normal person who rides bikes!"

@mur2501

@freemo @mur2501 Damn, are PMs in other countries not normal people?! HAVE WE BEEN INVADED BY ALIENS?!

@trinsec

I am prettys ure neither Biden nor Trump has ever ridden a bicycle a day in their lives :)

@mur2501

@FailForward

Well then I guess I pegged him wrong on that.

That said, I highly doubt he is cycling to work at the white house each day like the dutch PM :)

@trinsec @mur2501

@freemo With the whole security ceremony around POTUS, it would probably be a pretty expensive bicycle commute there 😃 .

@trinsec @mur2501

@FailForward

This is true… which kinda says a lot on a bit of a tangent.. why can the PM of the netherlands safely ride to work every day while the USA president needs an army to follow him…. might have something to do with the fact that US presidents tend to be evil fuckers who are starting wars and killing people (indirectly) year after year

@trinsec @mur2501

@freemo Well, of course there’s a lot to say in response to your comment, but I guess it wouldn’t add much to what we all know anyway.

But I just had an interesting thought. The guy actually lives in the house where his office is too, right? So technically he does not need to commute - at least not too far. Nevertheless, before becoming POTUS, Biden was known to start each day on his Peloton bike (the news of what security risks this poses is also fun: theguardian.com/us-news/2021/j). So assuming they sorted the security out and allowed him to ride his stationary Peloton device, does that now count for a commute (of 0m, but still strictly technically it “gets” him there)? If so, we should credit him for getting on par with Mark Rutte when it comes to commuting on a bike 😄 .

@trinsec @mur2501

@FailForward

Fair points. But we have to admit, the US president is not and never will be as accessible and “just another citizen” as a dutch PM is… you’d hardly even recognize the dutch PM as being special if you saw him riding down the street :)
