@trinsec Were they just doing it to reduce the chance of it being stolen you think?
@freemo They could've delivered at my neighbours? That's always been an option. Or a central deposit I could get it from if need be if re-delivery next day wasn't an option either.
Leaving it behind unattended requires permission. I never gave that.
@trinsec It is probably different depending on the country. In the USA leaving it unattended is the norm except when the person shipping specifies otherwise.
@freemo It is *not* the norm here. Definitely not without permission.
At least this is the first time this has ever happened to me. Maybe it depends on the delivery company, but I'm now less likely to choose this one out of a list.
@trinsec in the netherlands for me UPS would often leave the package unattended without permission but would go out of their way to hide it. for example they would often walk into my backyard and leave it near the backdoor.
That said I had some truly weird interactions. More than once, without permission, the UPS guy just walked into the house and left it on our table while we werent there.
@freemo That might be your experience, but that won't be the case for everybody. I'd keep my front door locked even when I'm at home. (Being deaf is another factor to keep in mind). Though with our front doors you'd need to go through some considerable effort to keep it unlocked as they're all auto-locking, unlike most American front doors I've encountered.
And window breaking isn't common around here. It's a noisy act, you don't want to attract attention like that. Most of our front doors have large windows.
@freemo That said, I just opened my backdoor as it's a gorgeous weather. My backyard is a closed and locked enclosure, so it's unlikely for anyone to just walk in. They'd have to climb the fences at the neighbours first, which is a lot of effort for a simple burglary.
