Why do I impose such difficult on myself?

  1. Some are way better than others, were much more original when published, or have a much larger influence today.
  2. My own taste, my personal bubble’s recommendations, and current trends — none of them are reliable indicators of quality.
  3. Books that seem huge today may be forgotten in a decade; what persists for generations or even centuries is more likely to be worth reading.
  4. The opportunity cost of reading “Trendy Fantasy Saga” instead of “Universal Masterpiece Of Five Centuries Ago” may be high.

This proves that strong criticism of modern is not a fringe position in 2023 by any means, and that even among women and even among the youngest generation a large proportion of people (ranging from ⅓ to ½) are sceptical, resisting, or noticing discrimination against .

It’s a 32-country survey of 22+K adults by (the world’s third largest research agency) and the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (King’s College London).

Not all aggregates are representative because some countries with large populations (eg India, China, Indonesia) probably skew less feminist than others. But even the figures for specific Western democracies (and those are accurate) show less than clear enthusiasm, even from women themselves.

This will be surprising.

To some people.

Liberals are in their personal lives more intolerant of conservatives than vice versa across numerous dimensions in the US and the UK. Those on the left are more likely to block someone on social media over their views, be upset if their child marries someone from the other side, and find it hard to be friends with or date someone they disagree with politically.”

and family life:

Conservatives are more likely than liberals to be happily married, simply because they’re more likely to be married in the first place. […] Ideology predicts marital status among Americans about as well as income or education.”

Possible flaw: I suspect age correlates with both probability of being married and with probability of leaning right, so when you look at who’s married today, some of those (happily) married who declare to be conservatives would have been singles who identified as liberals two or three decades earlier. In other words: perhaps it’s not that being a liberal makes you less likely to marry, but that being married and having children moves you closer to conservatism!
