Why criticism and opinion over anything treated as phobia? @freemo
@design_RG Intresting I don't have any problem with those rules but why naming them as phobia.
@koyu@koyu.space @freemo
@design_RG Have a better version of it
These rules simply give power to admin, whether he likes certain opinion or not.
eg, I posted a link to issue over Trans women participating with biological women than you will consider it transphobic based on community reaction.

I like the current ToS, 'but generally unpopular opinions voiced respectfully will be fine'.
I'd say any TL;DR should focus on that point as a first order principle (even before the no hate speech part), it is effectively where our free speech aspect comes from.

Open to suggestions, please post a revised draft of your own conception(s).
i'd mostly like to hear from the community either in support or opposition to your own proposal before I insert any final edits.
@freemo i've created my account here yesterday exactly because of the current short rules! they are concise and, even if some may object that this is the case, i think it should be easy enough for everyone to be civilized.
@bonifartius Thanks. I am pretty happy with them so far.
@bonifartius @freemo I joined earlier because the rules seemed simple and were not overly restrictive or illogical like other instances I've seen. No disrespect towards other instances intended. I just greatly value the ability to dissent with others and have discussions and debates.
@miguel31416 it's not just about single person but about whole community.

to some degree im a little critical of the wording "phobia" myself, though i havent decided if im just being anal or not (which is why im trying to listen before I voice a strong opinion)...
For example I might be ok if someone wants to respectfully voice the opinion that religions are morally wrong, even if it happens to be islam or christianity, which might be seen as christianaphobia or islamaphobia. But I wouldnt be ok with explicit hate speech against islams or christians... Ultimately it also depends on the nuance.
I was extremely careful when I picked the current wording of the ToS with these thoughts inmine. I picked the word hate speech rather than listing "phobias" because I felt it more accurately encompassed the view. Outright hate, attacks, harassment, or insults towards cultures I'm not going to be too happy about. But respectful, albeit harsh criticism can be ok if done in the right way.
For me personally it is a tricky thing to summarize the ToS in such explicit terms in the form of a list because of the nature of some of this.
I'm not saying i disagree with any of this mind you. Just saying it was hard enough to come up with a wording of the ToS I found acceptable in long form, I think its even harder to try to summarize it in a few sentances.
For now im just going to listen before I try to push the opinion in either direction though.

>if im just being anal or not
Did you mistyped something here?
>For example I might be.. nuance.
The current one on this thread only list Islamophobia, as user that can be interpreted as its OK to criticse or having opinions about other religions but not Islam.
It's completely wrong if your community is diverse, people of different faith gather here talk. It should be corrected.
When it comes to hate against religion, it became a problem, what is hate speech actually (specially when fediverse got involved) so you remember when I asked you about what do if someone reported an account over quoting a news?
That guy only quoted what's written in that article basically headline.
Do you consider that as hate xenophobia and other 50 buzzwords?
>But respectful, albeit harsh criticism can be ok if done in the right way.
That what I wanted but it's not that simple, things get complicated.
>I'm not saying i disagree with any of this mind you. Just saying it was hard enough to come up.
Yes I agree, I am the one who asked you what to do in moderation so no denying there. it's really difficult but I think if we get people who challenged these rules, these rules will get better over time.

>> Why criticism and opinion over anything treated as phobia?
Some people don't see it as a problem and it avoids a lot of problems for an instance.
Reputational Damage is a thing, and hard to repair.
There are places where free expression of opinions, regarless of other's opinions and sensitivities, are prime concern.
I personally would avoid such places.
