@MikeDunnAuthor The problem is, replacing their services would be even more costly.
@MikeDunnAuthor it would be funny to respond to those conservatives by pointing out that if she was DEI hire then it would have been Trump promoting that DEI program
@SenatorMoobs Well that's not true.
If it was true that the court claims to be exclusive decider of constitutional meaning then we wouldn't see the court actively and explicitly citing the constitutional meanings decided by others, both other courts and even conclusions by non-governmental speakers.
No, the court said that it CAN issue opinions. But it can't exactly force anyone to care or abide by them.
@servelan being able to fire your own employees is hardly reaching to royalty.
@rolle honestly I think you are taking a step backwards by personalizing it like that.
That kind of personalizing of things often ends up driving the centralization that takes systems down.
Heck I think it means BlueSky is LESS susceptible to those issues that it's not tied to a particular identity like the way you describe.
@JohnBarentine Well no. These explosions happened with different ships, a different generation of design.
The company showed that it could launch the previous design, and this is a new design that has promise even though it is a stretch.
It's not a step backwards. Just to emphasize it again, this is a new design.
@realcaseyrollins or, he's just a moron who doesn't really have a plan, doesn't know what's going on in the world, and doesn't really care so long as people pay attention to him.
It's really the simpler explanation given what we see from him.
He could have already settled this stuff, but he botched it over and over again.
#Republicans have been pushing this story that #Trump had his explosion with the #Ukraine president after the Ukrainian said the wrong thing, forcing Trump to cancel his big deal.
It's just another example of, if y'all listen to yourselves, are you saying your guy really is that weak that the foreign president is able to manipulate him that way? Doesn't sound like much of a president.
It's unfortunate that this administration is really being run by the stupidest, most oblivious people on the scene.
@realTuckFrumper this isn't messy.
This is just pointing out the organization of the US government. It's pretty simple.
@breedlov keep in mind, Social Security is not your money.
It's a program that the government has set up where if they feel like it they might send you some of theirs.
We really need to emphasize this because a lot of people are being lied to about how this works, and they're surprised when reality pops up.
@emily It's a critical mass problem, like setting up a new social media platform. Very similar.
Without the users there's no reason for users to use it.
We have the technology for nearly instant payments without involving banks, but it's the social problem that's to hold up.
@Remittancegirl nah, It's more that they are loyalists, not misogynists. They think she owes Trump for the appointment. Roberts isn't saddled by that "debt" so they're more likely to just grouse about him without making it so personal.
Mainstream conservatism these days spends a lot of time talking about people having debts of honor especially when it comes to Trump.
They talk about betrayal a lot when anybody that they think should be in lockstep on the team has a different opinion, and it's also why all this talk of Ukraine rare earths paying the US back became such a significant issue.
@mmasnick.bsky.social hardly anyone understands 230 🙂
230 is legitimately complicated because it involves rules and exceptions to rules, but the coverage of it has been pretty awful so the general public does not understand it.
At that point is it any surprise that politicians take advantage of that misunderstanding for their own political interests? Someone like Senator Durbin is going to play to the misunderstanding of the people who vote for him, especially if he doesn't actually think the legislation would pass.
But I just think we should be clear about it: the public does not understand that law, and at that point it's kind of a mess to talk about it.
#USPolitics #230 #Durbin
No, a whole lot of us came to this platform specifically to get away from the idea of one actor or another stepping up and leading us in the direction they want to go, whether or not we agree with the direction.
No, Mastodon needs to continue staying out of it so we can better shape our own experiences here.
@palestine @lebanon @yemen @irannachrichten @blackvoices @BLKNewsNow
@faab64 or maybe they're simply putting on a hearing to address antisemitism.
Occam's Razor applies.
Not everything is a veiled conspiracy.
@gentlegardener yes, SpaceX has governance, but it's a private company, so they manage themselves.
Keep in mind, too, that they do have investors that they not only answer to but that they have to keep happy. Those with that skin in the game hold the company to account.
@piglet how about we get over the obsession with Musk and realize that he's responsible for neither the successes and failures as armies of scientists, engineers, programmers, machinists... tons of other people are actually working on these projects.
He's rather insignificant in the larger scheme of things.
I think the most pressing and fundamental problem of the day is that people lack a practically effective means of sorting out questions of fact in the larger world. We can hardly begin to discuss ways of addressing reality if we can't agree what reality even is, after all.
The institutions that have served this role in the past have dropped the ball, so the next best solution is talking to each other, particularly to those who disagree, to sort out conflicting claims.
Unfortunately, far too many actively oppose this, leaving all opposing claims untested. It's very regressive.
So that's my hobby, striving to understanding the arguments of all sides at least because it's interesting to see how mythologies are formed but also because maybe through that process we can all have our beliefs tested.
But if nothing else, social media platforms like this are chances to vent frustrations that on so many issues both sides are obviously wrong ;)
