@binaryhawk it's not about bailing out Republicans.

That line is a huge distraction from the substance of governing, and it's one that all too few people seem to be pushing.

Do you want a functional legislature? Democrats voted to shut this legislature down. Do you want government funded? Well then it needs to be reopened.

Nothing about that has anything to do with bailing out Republicans.

Maybe you like government shutdown. Fair enough! That's what Democrats are voting for, so great!

Hold your representative accountable for their vote, but make sure you know what they actually voted for.

@Kihbernetics I'd say plenty of those theorists are entirely familiar with this sort of argument.

@rberger I just always emphasize that we voted for this.

We voted for these representatives who voted to shut the place down.

So in the end, if we choose to vote for these people, I guess it's a philosophical question as to whether that is a failed state or one that is recognizing the votes of its people.

Maybe both.

We just really need to stop re-electing these morons.

@chiclet

Also, so the Democrats voted to shut down the House, and they are supporting the crazy GOP members.

Yeah, that's what they did.

You bring up what it means, and what it means is that the GOP extremists have a voice where they would not have a voice otherwise. It means someone like Jim Jordan became a frontrunner as Republicans were forced to try to take the crazies seriously.

So frankly, what it means is even worse than what they did.

What they did was to shut down the democratic branch of government. What it means is that crazy people get a voice.

Hold them accountable for their votes to do this and mean this.

@dswidow @DemocracyMattersALot

@skroobler The funny thing is, we elected the guys who broke the government.

We're looking at them.

@NovemberMan@mastodon.social The problem is you are probably getting mad at lies about lies.

That's just how they manipulate us.

Just the sign of the times.

@coloradosun

@photophoregirl@octodon.social you do know the employees are paid, right?

@chiclet

I mean what they voted on is listed right there in the Congressional Record. It meant over 200 Democrats were willing to vote with extremists to shut down the House.

I agree this is beyond dispute. I don't know why you're disputing it.

Sounds like you're being manipulated.

@dswidow @DemocracyMattersALot

@whatzaname

The matter of weather my parents do or do not own their house has absolutely nothing to do with capitalists' feelings.

It sounds like you're trying to gaslight us by emphasizing an irrelevant conspiracy theory when the simple facts are staring us in the face.

Yes, ownership is black and white. That is why it is ownership. That is how ownership works.

Heck, would you say that your ownership of your own body is a capitalist plot? That what you want done to your own body doesn't really matter because ownership is a conspiracy by the capitalists?

No. That ownership is black and white is a good thing that we should not only recognize but celebrate!

@freemo @NikaShilobod

@chiclet

Here's a link to the voting role where 208 Democrats voted to shut down the House.

You can look up for yourself how your own representative voted.

clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023519?

@dswidow @DemocracyMattersALot

@chiclet

I honestly don't give a crap what Republicans say.

I do give a crap that Democrats voted to shut down the House.

Again, if you are happy with that, then sure keep re-electing the same people to keep causing this legislative chaos.

But this has nothing to do with Republicans. They didn't vote to shut down the house, they voted overwhelmingly not to.

It doesn't matter what Republicans did when Democrats had the numbers to join a few extremists to shut down the legislature.

@dswidow @DemocracyMattersALot

@VPS_Reports@kolektiva.social Well that's a misrepresentation of what's going on in the thread...

@whatzaname

Of course it's either/or!

That's just the nature of property and property rights. Either a person owns something or they don't. There's no gray area.

That is in fact the entire purpose of the concept of property.

Is that your plot of land? Either it is, or it's not. There's no kind of there.

@freemo @NikaShilobod

@jackhutton I mean, the people who designed the structure of the US government laid that out plainly, for anyone interested in reading the federalist papers.

@johnettesnuggs

Well we know it's not true that McCarthy would not work with Democrats since he arranged the vote with the Democrats to pass the funding resolution.

And then the question of his ouster was explicitly triggered over his working with Democrats, so again, he absolutely did work with Democrats.

That's just right there in the public record.

At this point, Democrats have voted to shut down the House and are continuing to actively vote in ways that prevent the Republican mainstream from being able to get their candidates through, so the Republicans have no choice but to bow to the extremists.

This is 100% a situation caused by Democrats voting strategy.
