@Roblisenko @carnage4life Or maybe things will quiet down, the USAF will remember that there are thousands of legit weather balloons launched every day and the radar speed gates were there for a reason, and they will develop a reasonable way to check for the actual spy balloons instead of going to war with the weather service and high school kids.

@nnscott @nyrath You just reminded me of the poor old Space Force colonel of volume 4 that tried to stop a Kessler disaster but couldn't get respect even from Fee...

@Roblisenko @carnage4life Scolding for what? They didn't break any aviation rules... Thousands of weather probes are sent up every day around the world, and they are just as uncontrolled as the science fair projects are.

@boelder @carnage4life Airliners are already certified to withstand impact from birds. The present regulations, that specify maximum weights and areal densities for unlicensed balloons, must be derived from those about birds.

@danluu So the more things change, the more they stay the same - but sillier?

@androidarts I did think "looks like BASIC with types or something", had no idea that it was a thing. The BASIC I vaguely remember had line numbers :D

About ten years ago a flying squirrel snuck into my house and spent a few hours playing hide-and-seek with my cat. Anyways. Here's the best photo you're likely to ever see of a flying squirrel hiding inside a #sunmicrosystems E4000 server chassis. #retrocomputing #mammals

@atompunkray @freemo @beckymsm Biden accomplished quite a lot, I would say! What I respect him for is that he's actually quite good at getting stuff passed.

@freemo @beckymsm @atompunkray My take on Biden is that he's always been good at positioning himself at about the midway point in the Democratic party spectrum, and following it as it moved. Honestly, as I grow older I tend to appreciate this quality more and more in politicians: too many people with bright ideas who thought themselves very clever have failed to impress me, while my appreciation for the hard thankless work of coalition building has grown.

And yeah, of course a lot that passed for boring midway point liberal attitudes when he was young is now considered racist. Jon Stewart made fun of trans people on the Daily Show not that many years ago, most Dem politicians supported the death penalty and draconian laws in the '90s... Those who spend a whole life in politics or culture will always come to regret something they said.

@bert_hubert and in so doing, behaved as a decent model of the real thing indeed...

@filippie509 Of course it's dumb. It is very surprising, though, that such good output (at least superficially) can be produced by a program with a foundation that dumb.

@foone Why don't you get one from letsencrypt.org ? It's basically the same thing, no questions asked at all.
Server isn't visible to the Internet I guess?

@chadloder @igd_news @CrimethInc @VPS_Reports@kolektiva.social I can't find a source for Andy Ngo being hired by Twitter, in any capacity.
