If this happens the @fsfe @fsf must be ready to develop, test and roll out operating systems to use this. it will be a window of opportunity we can't afford to really miss.

Most definatly, people want to work, only we get ghosted by agencies or they don't contact you for ages. Or if they do, and ask people to reply, they fail to reply.

Employers need to change their attitude, as they are losing good people.

The Myth:

Nobody wants to work.

The Truth:

People aren’t lazy,
they are burned out and taking healthier opportunities.

Employee retention is an EMPLOYER issue, not a
EMPLOYEE problem.

@danhon I am sure a few years ago kids were doing this to circumvent content filtering, so rather than going to the domain of a porn (or other site) site, they would enter the IP address. I can't confirm this happened though or give more info.

Encourage your children to develop their global working memory capacity by disabling DNS on their devices and forcing them to remember the IPv4 addresses of their favorite services.

At least I stand a chance of remembering IPv4 addresses, IPv6 ones may as well be a random string of 32 hexadecimal characters. Nobody's got time to memorize those.

I think we agree the onboarding (or even pre-onboarding) process is all important, hence I am tagging Kevin in to this. I am sure between everyone concerned with this that we can perhaps come up with something to help people. I think the important thing is to listen and take on board what people are telling us and formulate solutions that are helpful, but are also specific to the fediverse and the way it works.

Would be good to get the Good Things Foundation or similar groups on board with this too.

I think all those “How to Mastodon” articles are going about it all wrong. They start by explaining federation and talking about how to choose a server. Yes that’s the first step but it’s also where we lose people. Just put that aside. Start by talking about how you use Mastodon, all the great apps, the culture, etc. Then end with the first step, that “all you have to do is pick a server to get started” and explain how. You have to hook a fish before you can reel it in.
