Agreed, really good program and so much experience and knowledge from a small group of people.

I love the Repair Shop on #bbc #TV, giving life to something that 99.99% of people would dismiss as "rubbish". If you've never seen it, it's available on the BBC iPlayer bbc.co.uk/iplayer/group/b08l58

I had an e-mail from the goodthingsfoundation earlier, they are a UK charity, who are trying to help bridge the digital divide.

goodthingsfoundation.org/

As you would expect they are only on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. I have e-mailed back to suggest they join the fediverse as by diversifying they may reach people who may not want to be on mainstream social media. Also pointed out and asked them if they are actually aware of what is happening on Twitter.

Hopefully they will get back to me, but It does seem that new users need help being here, Online centres and those who help people get online can play a key role in helping people use the fediverse.

If we can help them be on here, then they can help others get here too, and stick around long enough to be able to make the most of being here. Granted not everyone will stay, but hopefully we won't lose people.

In the mean time I really encourage people to ask about support for using the fediverse, even if they are experienced here, if we can create some sort of demand by people keep mentioning the fediverse, then slowly things will change at the grassroots level, and we can get out of the idea that the only services out there are those by Microsoft, facebook, google, and that there are other ways to use the Internet.

That support could simply be then available should friends want to join but you may not have time or availability to provide that support, they can be signposted to the UK online centres etc for help.

New Linux users shouldn't fret about this. I've been using Linux since 2002 and I've had to do this exactly never. The dwarf planet Eris was discovered by astronomers Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz #OTD in 2005. It appeared in data that had been collected much earlier, on October 21st, 2003.

There it is, the tiny moving dot on the left of the gif.

I get that impression too, sounds like a really good idea to teach the basics, something I can help promote if nothing else.

I had a few people at code club wanting to learn about cybersecurity, in trying to find resources I decided to start with learning the bash shell and found resources for that, then found resources on networking, scripting etc and eventually get to cybersecurity.

Just found this and feel it is an excellent resource, thank you. for creating this.

This is going to have serious implications, especially as everyone is currently banging on about how data and data science, analytics are the future. So bring on the laws and rules like this that will help protect us from annoying adverts.

I have been on Fed for years, so will just boost for reach.

You joined Mastodon MORE THAN 2 MONTHS AGO (if LESS, vote on mamot.fr/@jz/10959735562329578 instead) and you are currently residing in...?

Please boost for wider, more federated sample!
