Meta is no longer letting advertisers target teens by gender. This is just one upcoming change that will take effect next month.

This change is not voluntary. Meta is under a lot of regulatory pressure to change its advertising policies.

Especially after states like California have recently passed online safety bills.

Ah the acostic coupler, I know it is called that as I had a book on practical things to do with a microcomputer, back in the 80s.

One of the things that people seem to want from fedi is a return to the community spirit of that era. SO the days before big tech, corporate control and surveillance capitalism grabbing all the data it can on people for profit and advertising.

I designed this 3D-printed lightweight magnetic business card holder, which I'll attach to my research posters by using additional magnets to sandwich the poster. I'll put cards in it with a QR code that leads to more detailed info about the work.

@DataDrivenMD

That could be because, not only is the Fediverse active, you can post and actually interact with other people with similar interests and also post ideas and get nice useful intelligent responses..

OK, but what if I told you that anyone claiming that the #TwitterMigration was a fluke, and that #Mastodon is losing daily active users is just lying because they assume that the data to disprove their bullshit doesn't exist? I ask because the data does exists, and it's right here in this post.

The upshot of this dataviz is that, after a brief holiday break, the vast majority (>80%) of large and/or notable Mastodon accounts remain *very* active. A plurality have posted within the last 24 hrs.

Yesterday Nature Communications published our paper about Russia’s foreign influence efforts *on Twitter* in the 2016 election. We've seen many claims about the implications of the findings, so we want to be clear about what the paper says and what it doesn’t. 1/

Second, what the paper doesn't say.

It does NOT say that Russia never interfered in the 2016 election or that the influence campaign didn't matter. The campaign was broad & multifaceted – we only looked at the Twitter portion. 4/

@postroutine
I am not sure, with 3d printers, people can just make new parts for all sort of things. i did see a 3d printed clip that is designed to go over cat5 cable and help replace a broken clip that would be part of the cat 5 end.

This was 3d printed with the design openly available. In fact I am sure i first saw that here on fedi.

This is not the first time a child has shot someone with a gun because the adults in charge of that child failed to keep the gun secure. The parents of this child HAVE to face charges otherwise it sends the wrong message surely.

As for the child, 6 is clearly too young to be sent to prison, even by US standards, however what is going on in that childs life needs to be examined.

Of course doing so, may open up all sorts of problems if local social services / child services (or what ever they are called in the US) have failed to act.

@drvolts Allowing a 6 year old child to have access to a gun is a crime committed with a gun. Refusing to hold parents accountable for their carelessness with a deadly weapon is a crime committed with a gun. How about that, Governor? Even the local news stories and police comments are reporting it in a way that focuses solely on the child and none on the parent.

For #ecology #conservation #Zoology #research #science purposes which do you mainly use for #statistics #analysis?
Please boost for wider reach.
I'm interested to know to what extent #Python is or is not replacing #R.

I got a DuPAL kit for preserving old PAL chips.

Nobody told me* I'd need to install Linux, a bunch of dependencies, and compile code to get a binary file.

When I want things to be quick, they aren't.

* I didn't read the instructions.

@fsf I remember the adverts in magazines that said "The box said Windows or better, so I installed GNU / Linux" I have modified that a little to say GNU / Linux.
