New study reveals unexpected benefit of solar farms — here’s what it could mean for farmers

"The study involved seeding the land underneath the solar panels with 66 different species of native plants and flowers.

They found that after five years, populations of native #bees had risen to 20 times their initial levels."

The #disinformation war has taken a toll, but researchers feel a shift

Researchers who study and combat disinformation have faced years of attacks. Recently, they've also achieved some quiet but significant victories.

Can AI differentiate lesson activities in the same way teachers can, based on their knowledge of individual needs of pupils.?

@GeofCox @pvonhellermannn neither the government (past or present), nor universities have ever been very good at identifying which graduates are needed. I suspect universities just push subjects that they think are going to to get lots of applications.
In my time, in computing, there was a big demand for places on courses targeting Games Development. Despite the fact that the industry was actually quite small. Lots of universities ran courses, so major oversupply. 1/2

Could be inevitable as people will just use another platform to spread their nonsense.

I see an intrinsic paradox in #OpenScience and the pressure of academic #patent race. In my view, science should be open and researchers in academia encouraged not to patent. Patents in private sector should also include a 1% share to give back to basic science as acknolwledgment of its commonwealth. To make it fair one could think of a universal non profit foundation dedicated to provide funds for basic science. or managed by @unesco Is t such a #crazyidea?

@rakyll

Sort of discusseed this at the STEM group earlier, if a programmer earns say 100k a year, and does programming without AI, does it mean if they then start to use AI that does 95 percent of the work, does that programmer get a 95 percent salary reduction and gets paid for the work they have undertaken. Or perhaps replaced with someone else, who is less qualified but able to just use AI to do the job too.

Either way programmers risk losing jobs or salary due to the fact they are doing less work.

The 100k is there just as a made up figure as it is easier to just work out percentages. In this case 95% of that 100k is a measly 5k a year.

Given how capitalism works, it would not really surprise me.
