Not sure, but if this is a bad idea on a normal Friday, then Frida 13th could be a bigger problem on the way

@Sheencr

The fact that the regulators need to grow some balls and start kicking a few backsides of big tech bosses is a factor too.

X is doing real harms with its lack of moderation and algorithms that push material to you- the proliferation of posts promoting eating disorders is extremely worrying theguardian.com/society/articl

Lets hope it is the beginning of the end for the big tech era, perhaps this is a side effect of getting more and more people online is that they learn how to 'google' information. They are told google is good, then find articles to the contrary and dig deeper and find google is actually not as good, and find alternatives.

One of the free to air tv channels in the UK carries adverts for duckduckgo.

People are aware of their GDPR rights, then learn about how their data and IP (e.g photos, text etc) are being used to train AI, how they are giving consent but not giving consent as we have to sign up to T&C to use their services, so give consent via a back door.

It is encouraging to see that Google's monopoly power is being challenged in a second antitrust case within a few weeks. Authorities around the world are increasingly taking action against monopoly power. Breaking up Big Tech would be the right step to limit their power and stop the damage to the public, democracy and consumers.

@jbond

Would that not require the DWP and HMRC to work more closely together.

Today there will be a vote on withdrawing the pensioner's winter fuel allowance.

One side effect of this is that applications for pension credits poverty benefits has gone up dramatically. It's said that a very large proportion of those eligible for these benefits don't claim them. Now why isn't it simply automatic? Why do you actually need to claim anything?

Facebook: Your Post Has Been Removed

From successful litter campaigns helping to Keep Orkney Clean to Weather Forecasts, Facebook has been either removing posts by The Orkney News or preventing our readers from sharing them. This is becoming a more frequent occurrence. Twice in the last 24 hours for example. There is nothing controversial about any of these posts - except that the weather forecast might sometimes be unable to cope with the changeable nature of the…
