I agree here, so again a big thank you to all the admins and mods out there. I think it is important, when talking to people about the fediverse, we mention there are bad people on here but they are i guess contained thanks to the way it works.

Pretending the fedi is some paradise of safety gives the wrong impression, asknowledging it is not perfect as it suggests denial which is what big tech does all the time to advoid having to deal robustly with the issues that exist.

@sarble @Tsbasatoru

Which is the nice thing about digital cameras, we are not held back by 36 exposure film, we can take 100s of photos in one session.

I have deleted my #BlueSky account. I will not use a platform that willingly supports regimes and their censorship. It’s like Twitter all over again. Centralised #socialmedia are doomed from the start for myriad of reasons. The only sustainable future lies in #fediverse.

@coolandnormal

Agreed, but we are dealing with two generations (wrong term there I know) pretty much, one is born just before or since facebook, google, et al took over the internet, those people see sharing data and information as normal.

Those of us who used the internet prior to 2000 so 1990s remember a much simpler model where websites provided information, adverts were more banners on web pages etc.

To todays young people the internet is something they have grown up wtih since birth. But it seems big tech IS the internet.

On consent, we are not talking to children about how consent applies to sex, and our right to say no, which means no. A lot of children don't fully understand the word no.

There is a link between what people see online and how people behave, could be a reason behind toxic masculimity.

@amelialiarakos

I agree here, I can't read the article without signing up but there are examples in nature of animals reproducing when there is a single animal, I think there are examples where animals have reproduced when it should not possible (which is probably based on or current understanding), do some creatures have the ability to reproduce on their own and have adapted so they can do this.

We are starting to discover what has been there all along, but may have not been looking for it, or looked for other explanations until we decide to reexamine something to gain a better understanding, nature adapts as does science.

Given plants have both male and female parts, I guess we can't put a plant in a signle male / female box as it is too black and white. I don't think plants can self fertilize, which is why insects are important, which of course humans being the top of the intelligence pile (sarcasm) are just destroying them when we know full well why insects are important and essential

I am happy to be corrected on some of this, as I am not a biologist.

You raise some good points here, esp around work and the attitutde to work, we see the same problems in the UK, people quit over the most minor thing, usually as they are not getting their way, or they expect xyz from day one, thanks to the influencers we have things like quiet quitting which is doing the bare minimum work or perhaps just do what their job entails, where as being part of a team means you need to at times jump on other tasks to help.

Most of this appears to have come fromk the USA.

I have watched a few programs about education in China, it seems to me people have little choice but to buckle down and work hard at school, get the grades, so they get go to college then job, as there I guess is little in the way of welfare to help people.

I get the impression that there is, in the UK a sort of underclass of people who don't care about their kids education, don't care about themselves, otehrs or anything as long as they are getting what they want. It is costing our economy greatly.

Unless we change our attitude towards education and work generally and actually value this, nothing will change.

People have said the west is doomed, your article makes some good suggestions as to why it is doomed.

@mike

Lets hope so, Trump and the US are causing global problems, however big tech have also caused many problems and don't want to put their profts at risk, by putting users, data, privacy, and safety first,l so something HAS to give.

Lets hope that after all this, the USA is reduced to very little, and people will look back and wonder what the hell has happened, then we can just suggest they look in a mirror, people were warned what was going to happen, we knew what was going to happen from trump 1.0 so why would trump 2.0 be any different, the fact he is talking about trump 3.0 when he can only serve two terms, and this talk does not provoke something says a lot about the USA really eh.

We don't need the USA as much as they need the rest of us.

This little #Palestinian boy with special needs, Ahmed, was
#MurderedbyIsrael last night. The area of his family's tent was bombed by #Israel and he couldn't escape the fire.

The world must stop Benjamin #Netanyahu and #Israel!

If you were the CEO of a small / medium buiness and you made comments / accusations such as this, they would be sued out of existance, and if you appeared before a court made a statement without evidence, you not only would lose, and have to pay compensation / costs but could as you make statements under oath face up to 10 years for perjury.

Interesting about the mini sub, but this diver is an expert at cavee rescue, he knows what does / does not work as do others like him, the last thing most emergency services need at a time of crisis is a big mouth, arm chair expert getting in the way.

@edgeofeurope

Or suggest that the judge who disagrees with them be impeached. That seems to be their usual Modus Operandi.

@zleap She can bring that proof before a judge. It's not hard, it's not confusing, they simply have to follow their own goddamn laws. That's all there is to it.

@edgeofeurope

The BBC cut off the broadcast as the lady whos daughter was beaten, raped and murdered by a member of MS-13. But yeah the lady doing the conference seemed to suggest she had proof.

Apparently the Dems are in El Salvador are trying to get MS 13 members released, if I understand it this ruling only applies to one person, but also applies to the fact that due process has to be followed.

If a President who had attempted a coup can now get away with ignoring Supreme Court rulings, then we already live in an authoritarian dictatorship.
