Welcome
Like many people, I'm new to mastodon
I'm a #Paris -based independent policy consultant & advisor on #China and its #decarbonisation
I also worked as an investigative journalist, covering China's environmental crisis in the early 2010s
I used to write long analytical threads on China's #energy and #climate policy on #Twitter
I guess from now on, I will also post here
For a brief introduction to China's #climate pledges, check out my #TED talk here: https://www.ted.com/talks/hongqiao_liu_can_china_achieve_its_ambitious_climate_pledges
See you around🙂
I want to start Canadian member-owned cooperative to run Mastodon servers in Canada.
Similar to social.coop but Canadian.

Just caught up with the latest episode of The Infinite Monkey Cage. Really interesting discussion on #Covid, and how we've all witnessed #science happening in real time throughout the pandemic. Well worth a listen.

No problem, keep up the good work, I am sure everyone appreciates this at the current time.
Currently Masto.host is experiencing the highest volume of traffic that has ever reached the infrastructure.
The service is partially degraded and I will be doing fast upgrades on the platform.
These can lead to partial downtime, errors and large delays in support requests.
Really sorry. Doing the best I can on my end. Hope you understand. Thanks.
#Introduction: I'm a historian of gender, trauma, & medicine, specifically interested in the experiences of British & Irish women during the First World War. I teach Gender & Science at Pitt, and live for interdisciplinary conversations about how the history of science can improve research outcomes. Also a scholar of the horror genre. I live with a cat named Dr. Fintan & several garden gnomes, all of whom are cleverer than I am. #histodons #history #WW1 #academics #HistMed #Gender #Science
Well hopefully those users here who have come across the bad actors and therefore know how to recognise them can act, and help block the bad actors before they get a foothold.
Send a clear message they are welcome here but will find them selves either shouting to the ether or to each other.
new to Mastodon- haven't got a clue what's going on! here for the #archaeology 🙂
That moment when you start getting 502’s and immediately understand that a tsunami of new users just made landfall.
It's time to #introduce myself! ✨
I'm a PhD student working with #neuromorphic computing and control systems. I've worked on spiking neural networks (https://github.com/norse/norse) and event-based vision (https://jegp.github.io/coordinate-regression/). I enjoy talking, thinking, and working towards better abstractions, reproducible #science and #FOSS.
Here's a demo for closed-loop control systems 🤖 https://uzh.mediaspace.cast.switch.ch/media/NEUROTECH+TutorialA+Real-time+neuromorphics+with+Norse/0_hynhzm4b/12519

Each new generation on the web needs to learn that there’s no such thing as a permanent web identity on a commercial web service.
The only long-term solution to maintain your identity is:
1. your own domain name
2. Your own website/blog
3. Several backups
Everything else is temporary. Your accounts on myspace, facebook, medium, twitter, google plus, youtube, tiktok, mastodon will one day disappear or become useless.
You don’t have a "community" on those websites. Only ephemeral discussions.
There was also talk of having a citation tool on here so that posts can be cited properly and the appropriate data e.g date, url, poster, etc can be generated by a tool on mastodon.
I think moving forward this would be an excellent and potentially game changing feature compared to non federated social media sites.
I have no problem being cited in principle, however one needs to determine opinion from facts.
@ajroach42 Those of us who have recently joined along with those of us who have been here for years (and suffered the cynical attitude from others) will be in the best position to help those joining us, once their corporate world falls apart.
We're wrestling power away from the billionaire class, in real time.
This is bigger than some technical standard.
This is cultural, political, and economic.
We represent an existential threat to the business model of some of the most wealthy corporations on the planet, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let anyone take that away from us without fighting against it with everything I have.
We are standing on the precipice of a transformative shift in the way we, as a society, relate to one another through the internet.
We are moving away from a Broadcast and Toward a conversation.
Interested in Technology, Science, Chemistry, Education, Fediverse, GNU/Linux and free software.
