What are the barriers to them having the internet, computers or phones. ?
People do kinda assume you have a computer, what is worse that computer is assumed to run windows and even worse people assume you use or want to sign up to facebook.
While there are alternatives such as Linux or Federated services such as Mastodon these never seem to get presented to people.

I still remember how some dude in my uni always bitched how git is hard to use on windows because someone could have two files with same name in different cases. Like, Bruh.c and bruh.c.
And then I used this to drive my teachers insane with my works, because all file names were like that.

The older generation are wise enough to see that big tech is a force for good, (which they are fed) but also wise enough to understand our argument about the price you pay for all those FREE services but they would also be wise enough to understand the difference between here on the fediverse and facebook in terms of privacy.

My current Desktop must be at least 10+ years old, it runs Debian, runs fine, so why do i need to update it and add more e-waste to the mountain that already exists.

Just learned about this thing called “tech shame”. let me say that nobody cares or judges if your PC is slow. We’ve dealt with modem speeds, YouTube buffering for minutes, images loading row by row. Don’t let that get in the way of your work. Someone shames you ask for a raise.

The fact they have joined here makes fedi start to stand out and people will start to take it seriously.
I agree, however lets not forget why we are decentralised, hopefully we can also make it much easier to set up an instance, looking at what @aral is doing with small tech, he said a while back things need to be as easy to set up as in a few clicks.l and you're done.

Oh hell yeah. @mozilla is launching a Mastodon instance in early 2023! I’m very excited for this. Mozilla is really good at what they do. Firefox has over 200M monthly active users, and with any luck they’ll build better support for the fediverse into Firefox itself.
