I’m seeing some about the fediverse along the lines of “we welcome our new venture capitalist and Big Tech overlords… what could possibly go wrong?”
What could possibly go wrong? Oh, I don’t know… take a look at the whole damn web. Take a look at email. Take a look at any resource that was part of the commons but was enclosed/captured by corporate interests. Read up on embrace, extend, and extinguish.

Here's a belated #introduction post (which makes all my previous posts a cold open):
I am a theoretical biologist in the Department of Biology at UPenn. My research interests span social evolution across all species, including symbiosis, community ecology, animal behavior, cultural evolution, etc. I also am a Co-Editor of @ASNAmNat currently.
Enjoying mastodon, which has many (though not all -- yet) of what I liked about the bird site and little of the craziness (yet, maybe?).
@nitashatiku I would say yea, post and open up discussions, you are also encouraged to post links to help back your arguments up, so content is then demonstrated to be fact checked on several levels.

Right now, connecting a WordPress site to the Fediverse is just a matter of installing this plug-in.
If just a fraction of WordPress sites connect to ActivityPub, then the network effect of the Fediverse will eclipse Big Social.

What are the barriers to them having the internet, computers or phones. ?
People do kinda assume you have a computer, what is worse that computer is assumed to run windows and even worse people assume you use or want to sign up to facebook.
While there are alternatives such as Linux or Federated services such as Mastodon these never seem to get presented to people.

I still remember how some dude in my uni always bitched how git is hard to use on windows because someone could have two files with same name in different cases. Like, Bruh.c and bruh.c.
And then I used this to drive my teachers insane with my works, because all file names were like that.

The older generation are wise enough to see that big tech is a force for good, (which they are fed) but also wise enough to understand our argument about the price you pay for all those FREE services but they would also be wise enough to understand the difference between here on the fediverse and facebook in terms of privacy.
