We don't generally get tornados in the UK, however yeah, I am by the coast so just watching the clouds build up over a long / short period of time.
I guess a lot of the time we don;t just sit and contemplate and take in what is going on around us.

So, I'm finding out the hard way that if you start a new Mastodon server, nobody can find you.
This is a shameless request for some boosts so some of the bigger instances see me.

@aral Frankly, we need to socialize the notion that the Fediverse itself shouldn't centralize around one singular app or service.
Let's start using as many apps as we can!
I think the reporting feature on the fediverse may help, as I am sure admins of instances dedicated to journalism, should also be committed to professional standards. It only takes one or two people to bring down the reputation of others, so acting on reports is in the best interest of the admin AND other journalists.
But yes, something that the fediverse needs to be aware of so we can perhaps as a community decide what to do BEFORE a problem arises, so when something happens the community can act.
What do others think about this?
As Christmas present this year I would love to have somebody who knows about stochastic calculus/statphys to answer a pair of questions about noise interpretations in conserved systems (when a white noise field has a multiplicative term and both are *inside* of a gradient).
I have been searching in the literature for weeks and I'm stuck, please help :)
@XanIndigo For some though if they are being paid for doing what they enjoy doing then it is less of problem, if they are self employed they are in more control too.
That is not always a good option for people.
@zleap@diode.zone @linuxmint I am hoping this video shows the process of checking the iso download and also that the output is as expected. i keep getting the part at the end that seems to imply it can't be trusted, as I don't understand what that means, but have also been advised to ignore that.
If some beta testers are impacted with media orientation after taking a photo, we will be interested by your feedback with next release.
@atomicpoet I am trying to reach out to non computer people too,

Glassfrogs Hide Red Blood Cells in Liver to “Disappear”
https://www.amnh.org/explore/news-blogs/research-posts/glassfrogs-camouflage
"Glassfrogs, nocturnal amphibians named for their see-through bellies, attain a special type of camouflage by temporarily storing nearly all of their red blood cells in their reflective livers"
Sure, neat trick, but can it move its testicles like that guy in Born Invincible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiNDM3NB9yk
Does his sound ok?
There is now a new plug in for Mozilla Firefox which facilitates the sharing of articles to the Federated social media network Mastodon, part of the Fediverse.

Yikes. I didn't even know people were getting extra noses! But at least now there's a vaccine.
Legit science journals are disappearing from the internet. Will Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, ACS exist in 100 years? Do they have policies to prevent the loss of papers?

I think the Russian space agency are sending up an empty spacecraft to bring them back. In some ways this is NOT good news, on the other hand it does highlight the dangers and challenges of space exploration, so as we move towards setting up a presence on the Moon this will be something that one day we are going to have to deal with. So it is also a really good learning opportunity on how we cooperate and bring the astronauts / cosmonauts back home safely.
Apparently some dickhead (or dickheads, as the case may be) uploaded malware into an issue on Codeberg and shared links to it and managed to get Codeberg onto a number of block lists so some folks can’t access the site now because their ISPs are blocking it.
If you know the folks who run these lists and can help remove Codeberg from them, I’d appreciate it.
