@ravirockks
At one time, (back in dos days) you could enter characters like this using ALT - ascii number, I used that a lot to do the degrees symbol for a science course.

I am sure windows did have a character map thingy that would let you copy / paste special characters.

I know overleaf has a symbol pallet but that isn't the point should be much easier to insert special characters.

@aral

Blimy that is long winded, I will stick to using XFCE at least it is easier to use.

"With AI, now any idiot can write malware!"

As a security researcher, I can assure you that idiots have been writing malware for quite some time.

Another good reason not to TRUST these platforms, what else is going on in the background.

TikTok’s Secret ‘Heating’ Button Can Make Anyone Go Viral

forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-wh

"TikTok and ByteDance employees regularly engage in 'heating,' a manual push that ensures specific videos 'achieve a certain number of video views,' according to six sources and documents reviewed by Forbes."

Most Internet users are totally oblivious to the fact that a case before the U.S. Supreme Court right now, other cases to come, and an array of politically-inspired regulatory efforts, stand a good chance of decimating UGC (User Generated Content) on the Web. This will be true even if the current Supreme Court case doesn't end badly.

Politicians and governments around the world, including in the U.S., are rushing to turn the Internet into a politically controlled, uber-censored version of China's Internet, complete with forcing everyone to be fully identified with government ID for access to most sites (using "protecting children" as the talking point).

It's coming boys and girls, and what's even scarier is Big Tech like Google seems to not fully understand what's at risk and how best to push back. Timid approaches won't suffice -- this is a war, with government pushing to turn the Internet into a tool for total control of their populations.

It is estimated that nearly 55,000 more Ohioans will have health insurance because of President Biden's #InflationReductionAct.

This will improve health outcomes, access to healthcare, and financial security for the people in #OH11.

@omniumgatherum

Indeed, which is why i also suggested if kids don't do homework we look at why and try and help, make sure there are homework / study clubs in schools for example. There is also restorative justice.

@omniumgatherum

Regardless of what type of discipline is handed out, each case needs to be judged on own merit but the punisment needs to be equal and proportionate to the offense. There are perhaps a few mitigating circumstances but generally it has to be fair.

So if a child forgets homework or fails to do homework they should be punished the circumstances that mitigate that could be the death of a family member, for example in whichc ase they can be given more time. Staying in to do homework on the school computers, when there isn't a working computer at home is counter productive, make the school systems more available to those in need, once systems reach end of life, install a free software operating system and make these available to the disadvantaged kids.

Portland Public Schools says unequal student discipline is call to action

koin.com/news/education/portla

"PPS data show Black students are disciplined at more than thrice the rate of white students. Native students are given referrals, suspension or expulsion two and a half times more often. Students with disabilities, including those who may have high levels of emotional dysregulation, face twice the number of disciplinary actions as their non-disabled peers."

#OmniumGatherum #culture

"What’s most troubling about our data is that we know from research that there are strong links between school discipline, likelihood of dropping out and eventual arrest and possible incarceration … I believe these data are an urgent call for change in action and we are working hard to make a difference."

My friend is at an American football game with his German exchange student pals, who are Bavarian. The opposite team is called CSU, meaning the crowd chants "FUCK CSU! FUCK CSU! FUCK CSU!" all the time. To the Germans, this was a dream - the CSU is Bavaria's Christian right-wing party. So they gleefully joined in with the chanting, and sent videos of it back home with the caption "even the Americans hate CSU". Heartwarming moment.

@GossiTheDog

So what can staff in school do to help counter his narrative. I know schools are trying to talk to young people about Andrew Tate, but any ideas welcome.

Some friends and I were discussing why we do free software even though it often means doing tons of work for little or no money.

I think for me some major factors are the personal agency you have over the work (independent from employers/investors) and the potential for longevity that comes with having your work be part of the commons (projects can't be acquired and killed).

That kind of unalienated relationship to your creative output is very rare outside of maybe fine arts or entertainment.

Internet prick, borderline noncery

@xtaldave

This idiot needs to be stopped, he has a huge influence on teen boys, so they will see his behaviour and copy, if he gets away with it, they will know they can copy and get away with it too.

What I would like to know is what the hell are these platform moderators doing tp allow him to fester for so long with this, oh yea nothing as he generates huge profits.

@xtaldave
I am just trying to reduce them, printer notifications are useful sometimes.

@atomicpoet

Desktop notifications are a pain too, esp when you are trying to make a sceen cast video and they appear part way through.

@xtaldave

Another interesting point here is they are trying to find out who sent the messages Andrew Tate, his brother or someone working on their behalf. The issue here is surely if it is HIS account he is responsible for what is posted. If you leave your computer unlocked, someone then uses it to send an abusive message to the boss, then surely it is YOU who has sent it for all intent and purposes, it is up to you to prove otherwise.

If nothing else you are in breach of company IT policy by failing to lock the device if away from it.
