Debian *has* budgie, though, it's just not in the list.

It's listed in other desktop environments:

@peltast @AlexanderKingsbury @whatzaname @gerrymcgovern

Violence by capitalists and their agents, state actors like cops, to enforce rentier extraction.

That’s it. Abolish aggression. No more murder to enrich billionaires.

@glnews_mirror

So basically the US is happy for Israel to carry on killing people and the bloodshed will eventually stop, but there is no rush for that.

@Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social

If people are not sure what this is, buddiesofbudgie.org/blog/budgi

There is Ubuntu Budgie

I am not sure how to suggest ideas to @debian maybe what is needed is to find a team of people who would help maintain this within Debian.

@ArenaCops

Western countries (that includes the UK) really do need to wake up to espionage, if live in Russia. China, Iran, N Korea and a few other countries and sold secrets to other countries considered hostile you would probably be executed.

We may not want to follow that level of punishment but a long prison term or something needs to be handed out to ensure the right message is sent to the person doing these things AND any associates. The difference is in the US you can plea bargain to get a reduced term if you cooperate and hand over details of others involved.

😎🤔 WTF made Rudy go so abysmally wrong???

Joe Biden removes"Russian pawn" Giuliani suit to federal court.

Rudy sued Biden for having said:

“His buddy Rudy Giuliani. He’s being used as a Russian pawn. He’s being fed information that is Russian — that is not true.”

See anything wrong in it?

"American intelligence agencies were not spying on Giuliani, but on the people with whom he was talking, the source said, including Andrii Derkach, who has been identified by the Treasury Department as a Russian agent. That collection led them to learn about Giuliani's dealings with Derkach and other Russian operatives who wanted to feed him information attempting to discredit Democrat Joe Biden, the source said."

@CherokeeSher
So that isd ages 12 to 14 or about that.

I wonder what sort of material they would have found at the back of lockers back then :D

Even in the UK there was always the odd 'adult magazine' floating around somewhere.

@Daojoan

I think you make an excellent point here, why is it that genuine, hard-working, rational and intelligent people have to suffer fools and feel they need to move platforms because of groups of people who have zero respect for others? Or suffer reputational damage due to having to share a platform with bad actors and immature users.

I will boost in order to try and help spread your writing and work. Just had a look at your website, some good writing on there.

I think there is a real need for a better model(s) for content creators to be able to share work and easily earn money for what is produced, There are services such as Librepay ( liberapay.com/ ) but that does not guarantee a regular income. I think it does facilitate regular payments.

I am not sure how the Fediverse can help with this, but we need something, and perhaps collectively we can change things.

As a trans writer, I'm in an uncomfortable position. It's already hard enough to get cut through and build an audience - foregoing the network effects of substack means I'm removing yet another avenue of growth.

And it also means paying more money out of my own - currently dwindling - funds to pay for Ghost pro or a similar service. That's bloody expensive.

But on the other hand - staying on Substack means staying on a platform that gives revenue and a voice to people who hate my existence.

If you are forcing people who usually write about food to write about their opposition to Nazis, you are not the champions of discourse you think you are.

@yasman@mstdn.party

If I understand things correctly, after WWII most countries banned things related to Nazi Germany so those who still tried to follow Nazi ideas had less of an opportunity to express their views. What also happened is people were EDUCATED as to what had happened during the holocaust so it would 'never happen again'.

In the USA, the first amendment seems to have been used to as a way for the racists etc to hide behind free speech and spread their views to others.

The internet provides both an opportunity to educate OR for one group to radicalise another group of people or individuals. Add to that we no longer challenge certain behaviours, some views are never properly challenged at an early stage.

So, Substack… I was really disappointed and annoyed by the company’s response to the racist, hateful content on the site. As an author on the platform, I now have some thinking to do. But please can folks not put pressure on indie writers to immediately quit; most of us are just trying to get our work out there in a tough market, we have put a lot of time/effort into the platform, and maybe trying to earn a bit of money if we are lucky. This really sucks. But as I say, I will ponder my options.

@mike @jeff

I think you have a goodf point, 24 hour news means jouralists are under pressure to report the news, update the news before all the facts are known, but they are expected to report something to show story progression. This has led to lower standards.

@jeff My views on this are strong. Most journalism in a traditional sense is dead. It started before the internet with the 24 hr news cycle. At that point, journalism started to become entertainment.

@jalcine

But I think it is proved now that when it comes to harmful material, big tech have simply lost control.

@jalcine

It shows big tech is not capable of policing itself, so hence government demand the need for regulation. Meanwhile, smaller tech such as the fediverse is proving we CAN police ourselves, we can here, we can on IRC, some forums etc and, of course, other decentralised platforms.

However, smaller tech can also admit we are not perfect, don't always get it right, admit mistakes and strive to improve.

@verdantsquare

Given how popular he still seems to be, despite the allegations, when will he face time in court and perhaps prison.

Perhaps when he does finally get punished, (if guilty) then it will send a message to his followers that his behaviour is not tolerated, until then, he what ever he has done appears to be with impunity.

Meanwhile sexual harassment carries on in schools, work places and other areas of society as people think he and those like him are some sort of hero and replicate the behaviour.
