I agree, Thing is a smart suit would be sufficient, could be bought and would be good for things like work, job interviews, formal events etc.

This is before we get on to what the girls wear, those prom dresses are probably equally expensive..

The head coach of my local American football team has a degree in Geology, he said we are still n the last ice age as we still have ice caps.

Exactly what @Gargron says!

Governments should not rely on Threads for connecting to the Fediverse. It would be far better for them to run on their own servers. Ideally, I’d prefer to follow @potus@whitehouse.gov (which doesn’t exist right now) than @potus.

But last week, Joe Biden was not on the Fediverse. Now he is. This is a huge win and will result in further migration here.

This is neither ideal nor perfect – but it’s better than it was last week.

I think some kids have a prom to celebrate leaving primary school at 11.

Supply;y and demand, the demand is there people will simply charge what they want.

Perhaps what needs to happen is that young people follow the example in Ghostbusters afterlife, they get part-time jobs so they can earn money and hire their own suits.

In Empire strikes back, the rebel commander says "with all the asteroids about it will be dificult to spot approaching ships" (or something similar) how long will it be before someome says with all the star link satellites and space junk it will be hard to spot approaching asteroids.

I want to promote critical thinking. So try and do that, it is needed when you want to find proper accurate information on a topic.

Some people do not like or are uncomfortable with people who are authentic or who speak their minds in the service of critical thinking or liberating or uplifting or educating.

That’s just the way it is. And it is a very small price to pay.

Sometimes.

There are lots of movies, that as they are set in US schools or involve the graduation age group that include school prom.

I guess as with a lot of things they end up over here in the UK.

@zleap it happened between 1990 (when I finished high school) and a few years before social media became popular, as I was chatting to a lad from Yorkshire on a forum in the late 2000s who was then in his teens and just left school and they already had school proms (he also thought it was a daft idea)

1. Probably social media
2. We don't say NO to the kids perhaps

Just read on FB a young mum bemoaning the fact it costs £45 for her teenage lad to attend the high school prom, plus around £200 for suit hire (for just 4 hours!). Some other mums are trying to help her, but I was just thinking "why the fuck did we import this whole concept from the USA in the first place?"

I managed to embed a programming language interpreter inside DWARF debug information on Linux.

I'll be giving a very cursed talk about how it works at Pure Virtual C++ at the end of the month:

Schools seems to be, so all this HAS to start somewhere.

Joe Blogs beat the hackers and got his YouTube channel back!

In this new video he explains the nightmare he just went through. Just getting in touch with actual human beings at YouTube was really, really difficult and stressful, as he saw his life's work go down the drain.

When will politicians work to secure actual rights for content creators?

Today is National #LibraryGivingDay 📚

What I love about my library:

It provides free access to the internet and computers for everyone in my community. There are friendly staff to help. It has early literacy programs to help all children. They have a commitment to anti-racism and creating welcoming spaces for everyone. It has programs for all ages and lots of free resources.

Consider giving to your library, especially at this time.
