@zleap I used to think that exactly! (When I was only doing anthropology.) Then I started doing the practical part of sociology and was horrified that most people don't want to learn and enjoy their ignorance. (Which also explains football supporters ;-) )

Is it any wonder Covid is seen as a hidden agenda

The UK media has three types of report, one that the new variant is not that much of a threat, another is that it is serious threat, other reports say we don't actually know yet

Maybe the media need to hold off reporting, until they can get some consistent facts.

short story short ACADEMIC INTERVENTION IS EFFECTIVE in this court case, or at least the publishers seem to respond to it. this document is filed by 6 social scientists. can we get 6 more senior academics to file something similar? or make any noise at all?

@dsfgs I am working on a article titled fediverse rising for a local community magazine, so once I have a draft, will copy to an etherpad for comments

I have given the fact trumps new social media network uses mastodon as the intro, as people won't hear the last of that when it does launch

so what is the latest on the Trump + Mastodon AGPL thing then. ?

That's so PC! Sussex Police to use gender-neutral warrant cards after force's LGBT officers complained about having different ones for men and women

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1

To me, this makes more sense, as producing multiple warrant cards must cost more money then simply creating a single type of card that everyone can use and makes lots that are the same.

On the other hand, given the number of stabbings in the UK you would think the police would have different priorities. .

I am now in the process of getting in touch to suggest they use or at least offer Big blue button as an alternative.

It’s quite amazing to me that the media here has not covered this… surely I can‘t be the first person to have noticed it?

Anyway, if anyone from the Irish press does want to chat about this, you know where to find me.

Grr

When are people going to learn that not everyone has access to MS teams, I don't use Windows, Don't use office and therefore don't use teams.

Last time I had to sign up to MS was for an interview that never happened, it then too 60 days to get rid of the wreched MS account, it should take 30 under the GDPR

nwautismandsend.co.uk/training

To save people having to click, scroll and read the section I am refering to here reads

"What you will get with the course:

Online small interactive session (approx. 3-8 delegates currently via TEAMS) with a qualified trainer & SEND teacher
Resources delivered to your address: used during the training and yours to keep for future sessions (Lego-style starter kits valued at £100 each!)
Certified by NW Autism & SEND, a CPD provider using highly specialised and experienced teachers
Emailed a wealth of online resources for you to edit according to your setting’s needs
A certificate to confirmed you have attended the training"

I have just e-mailed the National Autistic Society (UK based) to invite them here, looking at their auto e-mail reply they are very busy but hopefully there will be a positive outcome.

We can but try.

In an effort to invite the Torbay Safer Communities team on here I sent an e-mail to the e-mail address provided on their website.

I got an auto reply (below)

This sort of nonsense is really starting to test my patience, if you can't be bothered to read your e-mail when why provide a contact e-mail address.

I would like these people to join the fedi so people on here who really need help and support can be signposted to some sort of assistance.

@zleap Thank you, Paul! This sounds like a good resource for the UK, and many things can probably be generalized enough. Also, I didn‘t see any red flags like the promotion of ABA or the lot. I‘ll definitely put it on the list.

@dsfgs @fediverse
If as a fediverse we were to develop some sort of training course in order to help new users, either use fedi, or for them to help develop to team up with a local CIC (community interest company) we need to fill out this survey

eatthatfrog.ac.uk/ - > links to their survey

surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FF5SC5D

Which to me looks like a pile of complex business techno twaddle.

This just assumes that anyone wanting to partner them is UK based of course.
