More than 270 Palestinians killed in raid to rescue hostages, Gaza authorities say

Sixty-four of the dead were children and 57 were women, the Gazan government said, with Saturday’s death toll said by medics to be the worst for months. The #Gaza health ministry’s death toll does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Do you want to see the pure joy of a Grandpa?

I am going to repost this because it’s a happy ending for 3 Palestinian children ❤️ and our newest little additions to the Canadian 🇨🇦 family.

(Now we need to push to get their father out— Islamic Relief Canada is working on it).

I decided 40 years ago that my dream of becoming a journalist so I could share the truth wasn’t realistic because of how biased US news was at that time.

Now? My post about sending esims to #gaza was shared 99 times (which is good!).

My post about helping children in #sudan was shared 9 times.

Why the 10x difference?

Theory: There’s scant reporting on Sudan, Congo, Tigray right now, despite mass death & displacement. And despite US arms sales + government & corporate support for UAE.

@themagpi I've built up a PCB to support four GY-PCM5102 DACs with a Raspberry Pi 5 and MiniDexed to give 8-channel audio output.

Includes: 4xDACs, SSD1306 display, encoder, buttons, MIDI IN/OUT.

Wonderful that the Ontario government will spend heavily on improving access to booze but will leave autistic kids without support out of pure ideological malice. globalnews.ca/news/10552854/on

@fancysandwiches I think Linux would meet a lot of people's needs, but it really annoys me when it's promoted as a trivial drop-in replacement, because it clearly isn't. You need to have the time, willingness, and inclination to learn it (and potentially solve some problems), and to continue to maintain it in the future. The first part is the easiest to solve, but you can't *make* people learn and use a skill they're not interested in.

If you could watch an individual water molecule, about once in 10 hours it would do this!

As it bounces around, every so often it hits another water molecule hard enough enough for one to steal a hydrogen nucleus - that is, a proton - from the other!

The water molecule with the missing proton is called a hydroxide ion, OH⁻. The one with an extra proton is called a hydronium ion, H₃O⁺.

This process is called the 'autoionization' of water. Thanks to this, roughly one in ten million molecules in a glass of water are actually OH⁻ or H₃O⁺, not the H₂O you expect.

And this explains why water conducts electricity so well. Let's watch.

I hate when people refer to humans as "hairless apes". We are not hairless. None of us are hairless.

Some of us have very fine, very light hair; some of us have thicker, darker hair; but we all have hair covering most of our bodies whether it's highly visible or not.

Things that happened along the way when trying to make my Win 11 machine dual boot:
First, it's got 1 M2 SSD where Windows lives & a few hard drives. I cleared one of the hard drives to put Linux on.

Thing that bothered me there is having Linux running on a slower storage media. So I actually went & ordered a 2nd SSD off Amazon which was supposed to arrive right on the day I was supposed to start setting it up, w/ the idea that I'd install Linux on that, & the cleared drive would be the home dir.

It didn't arrive. So next day, I started setting up things anyways, just figuring I'd redo/move some of it later.

At this point, I can request a refund tomorrow (poss. today, as of a few minutes ago), since it never got here.

Not sure if I'm just going to settle for it not being on an SSD, or grab another one and rsync everything over to that one and reconfigure things at this point.

I'll also say I had lots of adventures moving partitions on the SSD and resizing the EFI one...

Currently I am paid 10% more per hour to add features to my program than I am to fix bugs in it.

Interesting set of unintentional incentives there.

Going to work this afternoon on fixing a bug nevertheless.

Dozens dead. Children dead. IDF say it was a targeted and precise attack. Which it was - against a school. UK Govt must not continue to look away. It must stop arms export licenses to supply the IDF or any military capable of such atrocity.
