@zleap i think i looked on joinmastodon back when i joined, but i think now these directories are pretty biased to what i'd call something like "limited speech" instances.
they remove instances like fosstodon and qoto because there are people on there holding unpopular opinions about gendering speech or vaccines or guns or any other "controversial" topic.
on the other hand i don't think i'd be hard pressed to find approval of things like trump getting shot at from the instances currently listed in these directories.
it's a glaring double standard.

I have an artist friend who is thoroughly fed up with the Insta algorithm impacting on his ability to both share his paintings with others & view others' for enjoyment & inspiration.
He's keen to give Mastodon a go & I'd love some opinions on what server would suit him. He could have an account on ours, but our local feed is too restricted.
