The FCC introduced the Fairness Doctrine in 1949, requiring broadcasters to present both sides of controversial issues. In 1987, during the Reagan administration, the rule was eliminated. Within a year Rush Limbaugh was on the air. From that point on, it is pretty much a straight line to the media landscape we have today.

The pro-Trump media world peddled the lies that fueled the Capitol mob. Fox News led the way. -

I think we can definitively say the same thing about the entirety of the last 4 years.

The various crises, from COVID to politics to the economy, are all being laid bare, and the reformist approaches that have been used to try to eliminate this in the past have been shown to have failed.

There is a lot of work to be done still, but, if done correctly, these last 4 years could lead to profound changes in the ways we organize ourselves and relate to one another socially and politically.

Apparently the reason the cops didn’t do shit at the US Capitol is because after the BLM marches in June the DC police adopted new regulations to not violently engage with protesters. Some are all like “if it was black people it would have been very different!” yet it’s BECAUSE of BLM that the police stood down. The rules work both ways. Also, I feel like this is pretty important information… that very few people are mentioning.

Google Chrome browser privacy plan investigated in UK

This seems like a 'good' thing if it reduces the number of ads,

Google's plan to replace web browser cookies with a system that shares less data with advertisers is being investigated in the UK.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Google's plan could have a "significant impact" on news websites and the digital advertising market.

It had already raised concerns that publishers' profits could sink if they were unable to run personalised ads.

But Google said digital advertising practices had to "evolve".

I am making a blog post on 18th Jan to list hosting providers for the Fediverse services

So far I have

app.spacebear.ee/
masto.host/

If anyone has any links to other services then I will include these too.

I have also given @aral a mention for the Small-Web project

Would be good to get a nice list together.

Scheduled for 18th Jan as I am about 2 weeks ahead of my self for posts, which is a good thing.

Thanks for any help

Paul

Nice, even Elon Musk says use Signal instead of WhatsApp for example!

Well, there is a lot of footage, and because most of them don't believe Covid is real, they were not wearing masks.

Both us and the cops are going to have a field day between this footage and seeing them talk openly on Parler. Not only is that going to mean a lot of people lose their jobs, friends and social circles, but a lot of these people are going to catch felony charges for what they did yesterday.

Its about to be a really bad time for the fash!
