Next time someone tells you border security is racist, tell them fentanyl is the number one cause of death in the US for people in the 18-45 year old age group.

Over 40,000 people in that age group died in the US from fentanyl poisoning in 2021.

Most fentanyl comes from China through Mexico. Dealers lace it into other, less harmful drugs like marijuana, so many don't know they're using it until it's too late.

It's a national security and health issue, not a racist issue.

Today marks the 1000th day #Assange is detained at Belmarsh. 1000 days in maximum security prison, 1000 days without a conviction, 1000 days in a callous disregard for his most basic rights, 1000 days just to please US thirst for revenge. Enough!

I hate my web developer job. No time for unit testing, no time for documentation, no time for creativity or nice algorithms.
Just use whatever trendy JS {front,back}end framework, ship high bandwidth, heavy, soulless sites in no time.
The mere consciousness of it from my colleagues are jokes between two crypto bs talks. The climate catastrophes ahead are literally a joke to them.
I hate that I contribute to this and I want out.

Does anyone here have experience going from this kind of job to a more engineering-focused, ethical one? Tips? Interesting reads? I'd love to hear about it!

If you want to, you can move your Mastodon account to another instance.

Moving lets you take your followers, follows and settings with you.

1. Create a new account on the instance you want to move to, but do not delete the old account

2. Log into your NEW account, and go to Edit Profile > Moving From A Different Account, click on "create an account alias" and follow the instructions

3. Log into your OLD account, and go to Edit Profile > Move To A Different Account, click on "configure it here" and follow the instructions

4. On your OLD account, go to Preferences > Import and Export > Data Export and download the settings and follows lists

5. On your NEW account, go to Preferences > Import and Export > Import and upload the lists you just downloaded in the previous step

...your old account will now redirect to the new one, and your follows and followers will transfer automatically (there may be a short delay as this happens).
