50 years ago today, Count von Count made his first appearance on Sesame Street. The Vampire Muppet, who never seems to bite anyone and can be out in the sun, is obsessed with numbers and counting.
More than just a play on words, Vampire lore from several cultures includes compulsive counting and organization as a trait in such creatures- it's said you can escape one by scattering grain, which they'd then have to stop and count.

I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Okay, #JournalismMastodon, I’m curious to hear what your views and ideas are for how Mastodon can help bolster local news. I’m not sure aiming to make it just like the bird site is the best approach; that site has some flaws that are glaringly obvious now. Anyone here think there’s a way Mastodon can fill the gap of reliable localized news created by the total chaos on the bird?

One of the things I'm thinking about this morning is the fact that often, teachers are hesitant to share their best practices with one another.

That's always confused me, simply because I never really see my strategies as original to me. They are versions of things I learned from others.

Do you see that same sense of "possession" over good ideas from your peers?

And if so, why do you think that is? Why to we protect -- rather than share -- good ideas?

Lastname, F.M. [@mastodon@handle.tld] (20XX, Month DD). Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut ... [Mastodon post]. Name of instance. [URL of post]

As with the format for citing a Twitter post, the correct reference list title is the first 20 words of the post, and the correct short title is the first 5, both using an ellipsis if necessary.

If you don't fundamentally believe that all students can learn and want to succeed, teaching may not be the right career for you.

Yes, the work is hard. No, you won't always get it right.

But once you stop believing, you also stop trying -- and that ain't right.
