My dad kind of mocked me for being able to solve rubik's cube. Didn't touch the cube whole day. These things pull me off. Last time, he asked me about the 'benefits' of solving sudoko, i haven't picked up the newspaper to solve it to this day.
Idk, if it's him or my low confidence.
I feel so bad about myself.

@jookia he is a great person, but sometimes, he jokingly says something which hurts me. Of course he doesn't mean to do that but still.

@_lunawinters Sounds like its both, and perhaps its best you have a chat with him?

@freemo idk how to. I've always been like this. Always shutting down my own voice. I feel like I haven't made him and my family proud, even though I've been a good student. I don't feel enough for anyone.

@_lunawinters Awww ::hug:: have you considered maybe speaking with a therapist if you cant talk to your dad? I feel like having someone to talk to might help.

@freemo our schools in India don't have counsellors. Maybe someday, when I'll be a little more comfortable with the idea of seeing a therapist.

@_lunawinters Well in the meantime if there is anything I can do to help please feel free to reach out anytime.

@_lunawinters well maybe you should answer the questions.

"Solving Rubik's cube makes you patient, keeps your mind active, improves agility, dexterity, etc."

"Solving Sudoku improves your memory, gives you an sense of accomplishment which boosts your self-confidence, increases your concentration power and so on."

Kick Ignorance Out!

@_lunawinters Oh, well, they are games. Meant to have fun. If you have fun that's all. Unless someone is serious about asking what are the "benefits" of having fun.

@bly i told him that everything isn't about benefits. Somethings are meant to be for fun.

@_lunawinters Its not you who went around 'mocking' Its definitely him.
Very common in India. I'm not going to normalize this by saying that its okay. But you need to speak up.
And you do you :)

@Karthikdeva most of my classmates didn't have anything called hobbies. Because of the pressure. That's one of the reasons why parents don't expect kid to do anything except studying.

@_lunawinters Typical Indian mentality. Our education system is so lame, we were taught how to mug up a subject without any basic understanding. At least, that's how it was when i was in school couple of years back.

@_lunawinters That's sad.

Both of those are mind sharpening exercises. Maybe hand him the cube and say, can you do it?

It's not an easy thing. Stay with the things that you enjoy, even if people dismiss them.

@_lunawinters @design_RG the trick is to remember that the center square on every side is the color that side needs to be.

@Surasanji @design_RG i know how to solve the cube. I need to work on the speed tho.

@Surasanji @_lunawinters Go for it, Aaditi!!

It's a talent I never had. REmember playing with the cube a lot when it first came out, but not knowing any solving method. I managed to solve two faces simultaneously, once, and that took a lot of manipulation.

But its not the way to solve the complete cube.

Do you know the NY Times new Tiles game? I enjoy it for relaxing. It's pattern matching, and they are constantly coming up with completely different tile sets and trowing us off. 😃
