@jahnke I used to bike a lot before my spinal surgery
I'm sad to hear that, @freemo. What happend? Did you recovered well from your surgery?
@freemo @jahnke Nice folding bike, specially in Stealth Black. I like it.
Into cycling myself too, although if I wanted to ride today/tonight, I would need a Fat Bike, we got about 15 cm of snow fall today.
I do bicycle touring as well, although it's been a while since the last trip. Love getting to new places.
@namark
OMG, those little wheels will be deadly in any cracks in the pavement. Saw a lot of tourists renting them in Lisbon, and we had to keep an eye up and stay off their way on the sidewalks sometimes.
I almost wiped out on my fully loaded touring bike there, on a slick marble curb - right in front of the beautiful river Tejo.
Glad I didn't fall, it was heavy and the pavement was all granite.
How was cycling in Lisbon, @design_RG? I bet it was a fantastic experience.
@jahnke
I really enjoyed traveling in Portugal, was there and in Southern Spain for 2 months. 😮
Great fun, first time visiting Europe, and I loved it. ❤️ 🇪🇺
Lisbon itself I prefered to walk, the city is beautiful to wander around, has many historical neighbourhoods, a lot of hills. And traffic in the busier streets and avenues.
They have wonderful public transit - including the Trams, the famous 'Bondes' (in Brazilian speak), there called 'Elétricos'.
Riding these in some of the hilly routes is pure fun, and very popular with tourists.
Got to be at the start of the line early, so you can enjpy a ride in the small trams without the crowding and lines that form later.
Cycling in Portugal is good, but you need some traveling and riding experience as the roads don't have much shoulders, you need to change from road to raod to reach a destination.
But doable, and camping is superb all over the country.
I can write a whole guidebook about it, and probably will, lol. 😜
I visited 3 times, the first bike touring, the other two backpacking, which makes it easier to hop on the trains and intercity buses; but you lose some of the freedom of the touring bike, which would take me anywhere I wanted to.
some more rural places, there might be less options of public transport, there the bike will shine.
@jahnke
before I came to the US, I use the bike and subway go to work. I remember people like to put garbage in my bike basket. for example, an empty of water bottle.
here people using the car every day, or bus. I remember there is one time I was on the bike (in the US). one young man is trying to scare me in his car. like yelling at me all of sudden,
I think it's disrespectful and stupid
@design_RG @freemo @jahnke I electric scoot... and for some reason especially attracted to holes and tall curbs, so had a few unpleasant falls... after my spinal surgery ._.
