52 new users were welcomed into this past week.

And I am quite happy we stopped the adding huge number, which had NO RELATION to this instance's focus and theme.

And in the majority of cases, added ZERO posts, or added content that violated our Terms of Conduct (spammers, ads, escort services, prostitutes, etc) leading to their Deletion from the user base.

Yey for an improvement. Thanks @freemo and @arteteco, steady as she goes.

@design_RG

I'm happy with the decision for no other reason than it stops spam and nudity before our userbase has to see it, which is unpleasant. Even though we usually removed it within an hour, by then it was already seen.

My biggest issue is spam, so I am more than happy to eliminate it, even if it does cost us a few legit users who may be turned away by needing to go through an approval process.

@arteteco

It seems that mastodon.cloud is closing in June 30th. It's a big instance. Do you expect a massive migration from there?
@freemo @design_RG @arteteco

@miguel31416 @freemo @arteteco Oooooh.

I think we keep the current policy and select any incoming user as stem interested, or an acting student or professional in the area.

There are many instances for them to chose from, General as well as more focused, and even niche ones.

@design_RG

We will likely see an uptick in applications when the time comes. so we will see a surge just like anyone else. The mods should be ready to do double-duty when that happens approving applications.

@miguel31416 @arteteco

@freemo @design_RG @miguel31416 Approving applications is really a very quick matter, no problem

@arteteco

Agreed, it is less effort to approve applications than it is to track down spammers and deviants after the fact. By several orders of magnitude.
