@freemo @khird @barefootstache Hey are any admins on here still active? My profile has been 500-ing for some time now... becoming very frustrating. Can anyone help?
Could be database row corruption? Is anyone running maintenance commands etc these days?
Worst case, I could try moving instances but I doubt even that'll work if my posts can't even be pulled from the Qoto db/api...
@sabbatical I've been intentionally keeping an eye on things for the past week. I've had some intermittent issues with 500 errors, often fixed by a simple refresh. But I have not been able to post a photo any of the times I've tried…
@sabbatical Weird, I have no notification for either of these replies… things are breaking… I bet it's on an annual hosting plan and one day will just disappear
@sabbatical yeah I've been thinking the same thing. I've had https://instances.social/ open for days waiting for me to make a choice but I haven't gotten around to it yet
@sabbatical beige.party is a great name haha
It's funny, I don't follow a single account on any of those four
@sabbatical 90% sure I'll switch to beige.party I think. The name is tipping the scales over other options I've looked at
@levisan oh yeah? it is a great name. i didnt find any info on their federation/silencing policies, and they dont have many active users so would be a tiny bit worried they might some day go under. but i seem to recall they were not militant political censors when i was looking into them, and they dont seem to appear on defed/blocklists that i've seen, unlike qoto. i'm also looking at infosec.exchange, chaos.social, typo.social, but noticed on chaos.social they publish their instance defed list and qoto is on it. so i wonder if qoto got broadly defederated and that's why it's kinda keeled over.
@levisan interesting. so via my optimus@beige.party test account i can view my qoto account and follow it, but the most recent post it shows is from 2024! https://beige.party/@sabbatical@qoto.org
@sabbatical Hmmmmm I think your theory sounds right!
Your user count point is a good one. That's making me reconsider things…
@levisan of course, that might not be the best indicator... qoto was at the time i joined one of the higher MAU instances. i could even see it being the case that small instances are cheaper and so tend to survive more vs larger ones.
@sabbatical This whole process is definitely a downside of the self-hosted small federated instance model
@levisan I made accounts on beige.party, tilde.zone, mastodon.technology, and indieweb.social back when I was surveying the landscape... but ultimately chose qoto for its openness/balance when it came to not blocking other instances on my behalf. Not sure what the wider situation is for that anymore
