102 years ago, on June 15, 1921, Bessie Coleman achieved a significant milestone as the FIRST Black woman in history to earn a pilot's license, 2 years before Amelia Earhart. With great courage and determination, “Brave Bessie,” as she would later be called, pursued her own path, striving always to fulfill her mother's aspiration for her children to “amount to something.”

AI developers worry that AI models will degrade if they train on the coming flood of AI-generated content. I wonder if all post-2023 creative works will be suspect (at least as training data).

You could draw an analogy to low background steel. For certain applications (like Geiger counters) only pre-1945 steel can be used because all modern steel has too much radiation because of nuclear testing.

Mary Fields (Stagecoach Mary) was the 1st Black woman & 2nd woman to deliver mail in the US. At 60, she applied for a mail carrier position in Montana's Cascade region. She secured the job by skillfully hitching her horses faster than anyone else. Despite bandits, wolves, & grueling weather, Mary never missed driving the route with horses Moses, her mule. Often she would trek on foot, covering 10 miles with mail sacks over her shoulder.

Forgot to post this on Mastodon:

I am once again on the job market and looking for work!

I am an applied cryptography engineer with an academic background focused heavily on protocols. I'm good at Rust, Go, TypeScript and more!

What am I looking for? Quite simply, a healthy, positive work environment where we make real-world contributions to people via software.

I have good references, and do good work! Hire me! Reposts appreciated.

Apparently, my books are still on sale via Amazon! I'm still struggling with bills at the moment, so any purchases really do help.

I'll drop a link to the trailers for both books in THE OUTCROSSED SERIES in the replies. 🖤

A whio (blue duck) in Whanganui National Park on Friday. I literally fell into the river, then decided that while I was wet I might as well commit fully, waded to the other side chest deep in freezing water, got this shot and waded back. These are the lengths we go to!

If you take a social media sabbatical, don’t announce it. Just make your last post something fun like “I wonder if there’s a bear in this cave?”

We moved into our neighbourhood in 2009 and, for most of the time we’ve been here, we have been regularly greeted by Jasper, who keeps an eye on the end of our road from his vantage point just above it.

I noticed a little plaque today where there had not been one before, and now I know why I haven’t seen him for a little while. It’s technically #Caturday, but I hope this place won’t mind if today I observe #Saturdog, instead. He was a much-loved part of this place, and we all miss him.

I am in a mood tonight to remember a man I met only once and whose name I never learned.

Making a form so to make the logistics easier. ;)

OSTP has a request for public comment on the topic of automated worker surveillance and management. I believe that automated worker surveillance is a tool of exploitation and control. I want to write a public comment saying so, but I'm a little intimidated.

So! I'm hosting a (super informal) hangout **Monday, 8-9 ET** to work on my comment alongside others who want to submit comments.

Blues, once a popular and influential musical genre, has become scarce in many Black communities, with seeming abandonment by young Black-Americans. At just 24 years years old, Kingfish (Christone Ingram), represents a resurgence of the blues due to his remarkable talent, life story, youthful energy, & dedication to the blues.

The Blues is in safe hands.

I wonder what it's like, subjectively, to have the FEF region stimulated above the threshold. Is it just like your eyes move to some random location of their own accord or does it feel like deciding to move them to a location and then moving them there?

Python 3.12 is in beta! 🎉

This means no new features are allowed in and it's now time to start testing your code. You might find things in your code to fix, or even better, you might find things to fix in Python itself!

Here's how to do it:

small update: swallows are still here, but I don't see them as much, partly due to my own schedule though.. I just saw three this morning flying back near the nest.
