@igelsQTs I almost pointed out how their gear would get them chewed out and then I remembered oh it's a model.

@inference @hxvy0 I have one before Zen and the PSP. It's so scuffed of a design that I don't require microcode updates. Everything is mitigated in the kernel on the few exploits that could actually work on the hardware.

It's the generation where it was apparent they were nearing SMT as I have what looks like a dual core that's actually a quad core. It's an odd architecture if you want to look into it. I believe they were either Bulldozer or Excavator cores. They perform like they are named.

I did something similar to what you did with Gentoo. I used Ubuntu Kylin and built a hardened and optimized Kernel. I also built everything from source code to optimize it for my system. I did chassis modifications to lower thermals and swapped to low voltage ram of the same speed and it allowed my system to use dual channel memory and it is operating on more RAM than it officially supports.

Are you talking about the Athalon Silver?

@inference We have soldiers found dead from heat stroke here and it happens every summer. The best thing one can do is strip down and sip water while they are still conscious. Chugging water has caused some of the heat related deaths.

You ever been to a rave? It's kinda the same idea of keeping one's core temperature within an acceptable range. If it gets out of that range, it's not going to be good.

Don't drink alcohol and remember to stay hydrated. You can use the color of your urine to judge how hydrated you are. If you haven't pissed, it's definitely time to hydrate. I think the optimal area is around light yellow.

@hxvy0 It is a hard thing to deal with but having suboptimal hardware makes a better computer user. I made my pre Zen AMD CPU outperform 3rd gen i5 desktops by optimizing everything I could. Even the computational tasks were faster. In a benchmark they would easily kill my A10 by at least a factor of 2.

It's not what one has but how they use it.

@inference Hydrate and get out of the clothes! As an American, no I don't but I know if I start getting cramps from being in the heat that I need to find a cooler area before I die. It takes about two months for the human body to adjust to a new climate. So don't worry about the future. We evolved to adapt.

@rastinza I had a WNIC on the first system I tried Linux on and every distribution went into Kernel Panic except for DSL. The driver would load automatically and cause a Kernel Panic. It was the first and only time I had to physically remove hardware to get Linux running.

In retrospect, it was a good start with Linux. At the time I was rather upset that it had taken a couple of weeks to get working. Within a year or so I was hardening Kernels and custom compiling for different purposes. That was a decade ago.

It's a pleasure to help as I wouldn't have made it this far without the help of others.

@AmpBenzScientist
You were right; installing the proprietary drivers did in fact solve the problem

@rastinza I thought about recommending RHEL and decided not to just as quickly as it came into my mind.

Glad you found something that is working. You should have good repos for OpenMP and GPGPU utilization. You should be able to configure the GPU to be used in calculations or compilation without much work. If you think you are fast now, wait until you get the GPU cores involved. That's one positive thing I will say about RHEL. It's good with Clusters, HPC, Heterogeneous Hardware and doing systems tests on the F-22 Raptor.

@rastinza Good luck with that Nvidia GPU and Linux. If you are using an open source driver for the GPU then use the proprietary driver. Monitor the boot process for more useful information. I'm guessing it's the GPU.

@rastinza You can use the latest available one too. It's not too time consuming to compile the Kernel, it's the configuration that takes a while. You can enable the newer or testing repositories which should have more Kernel versions available.

@rastinza You might be able to find the source code for a different version of the Kernel and build it. I've rarely had a bad experience with custom compiled Kernels. It should help trim the excess off too.

@igelsQTs That shouldn't happen. There must have been some failing electronics nearby to get that kind of interference. Perhaps a poor ground quality where you were plugged in?

@igelsQTs Depending on the model it might have better DSP capabilities than x86-64 if it can't do it natively.

@AmpBenzScientist I did say that. But he doesnt want to spend much money on it so I just said buy a yeti cuz thats how all the low budget asmr people start

@igelsQTs That doesn't sound very German. Idk it's their problem and I don't think you want to volunteer yourself to be their Audio Engineer and have to see what is going on.

I've heard good things about Yeti. It should be good enough. I hope it is not ASMR turbines.

@igelsQTs When I worked a soundboard it was more important to properly tune the settings on a channel. I think it was like 24 that I was supposed to watch and that's not the secondary board which I also had to manage.

My point is that I have only seen one instance of hardware being so bad that I had to cut it. It was malfunctioning and had to be replaced. Even inexpensive equipment can sound great if the Audio Engineer? knows what they are doing. That was also with older equipment. The DSPs and other processing can do a lot with the sound that I didn't have the equipment to do.

That was around 50,000USD in equipment that I regularly touched. I guess ASMR is more about listening to frequencies that are generally unpleasant. So no cut outs on those frequencies which would need dual sampling to minimize interference with DSP.

I've had enough good experience with Beringer to blindly recommend all of the equipment they use to be made by them. It might not be the best but they have just worked with anything I've done in the past.
