@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx Is it a rack mounted server? The boards are real but remanufactured. It's better to get a rack mount server complete even if it's a less powerful Opteron. They can keep it all cool enough with the redundant fans and psus.

@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx I think it's mitigated by the OS but it could be microcode. AMD didn't have IME or hyper threading. It was just more resistant to many of the attacks if not unaffected.

@thendrix Society has effectively done that. How many guys can change a wheel? Almost none because spares aren't included anymore.

@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx It was a response to a lawsuit AMD got because of their weird cores.

@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx I despise Intel and AMD but that's what hardware is commonly available. At least with AMD you won't have microcode patches that just destroy performance. Also not as many vulnerabilities.

@thendrix It just seems like fear mongering. If it's really going to be that bad, there's no reason to worry. We all die someday from something. Do what you gotta do.

@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx Opteron 6270 or something like that was about the best performance per dollar. I was going for a dual socket because I couldn't afford or power the quad socket servers.

Make sure to do research on that particular server. Some servers have terrible firmware and other oddities. The Xeons are more powerful.

@PawelK It's empowering to make that kind of progress. I can't say that I agree with Calculus being taught outside of a University. Public schools might cover a little bit of it and one might get college credit for it but it isn't even close to the rigor of the University version.

For instance, in one of my Calculus courses we were given a single assignment. We knew derivatives but the task was to find the inverse operation without textbooks or the internet. That was 20% percent of our grade in the course. A lot of us got it correct or correct enough.

That professor designed missile systems for the USSR during the 70s. He never spoke much about it. He also called Chechens good people. The litmus test for what time period someone lived in Russia.

@Draven I guess welcome to the party for the new people with PTSD. Maybe people will learn to care about it now. I doubt it though.

@Draven Or a six sided socket that comes in a set. The Red Permatex, RTV Sealant, first aid kits when you are bleeding everywhere, a regular can of Seafoam and PB Blaster can go on that list.

Also anything that is made in the USA but isn't regulated by the BATFE.

@igelsQTs @sapphire @skylar@wolfgirl.bar
Benzene isn't the primary alkane in Petrol or Gasoline. I believe it's only 1%-2% or less on average. Benzene is a known carcinogen and a really good nonpolar solvent. It has more value when used in other industries.

@igelsQTs Gasoline was the name given as it is a mixture of hydrocarbons that are fractionally distilled between a certain temperature range.
Gasoline, Kerosene, Vaseline, Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes and many other petroleum products follow this naming convention. It's not referring to the phase of matter.

People in congress are too stupid to tie their own shoes, and read below a 4th grade level confirmed.

Stabilizing braces were made for handicapped people to hold a weapon with one arm with poor grip strength. They don't move at all for that reason. It's basically attaching a weapon to your arm, so you won't drop it.

@thendrix How lovely that they drag the deformed body of an AR-15 into the discussion. They need a 22 inch barrel to get the full velocity of the round. The 14.5 inch carbines weren't as effective and were more likely to jam.

This trashy thing has a super short barrel. Go grab tha Draco too homie. These "pistols" are a plague. It's thug lyfe, 2 fingers of promethazine codeine and an absolute insult to both pistols and rifles. If somehow that trash did manage full rock and roll, that full magazine is gone in around 1.5 seconds. It's not going to hit anything but walls, cook the barrel and they are out of ammo faster than they get an abortion from a 12ga.

@hn100 One of the keys to help prevent tampering is to not raise suspicion. These measures are just going to get someone flagged if it's intercepted.

@straw @Mek101 @itzzenxx Have you considered using a retired Dual Xeon E5 Rack Server for this type of work? It would chug through the workload just like a server should. It's going to be cheaper than having to get a regular computer to do the same. Redundant PSUs and Redundant jet turbine fans. These would be called virtualization servers but they can be used for offloading compile work for nearly anything.
