Our “deer friend” made a good point today. The TX state guard has more artillery shells than the rest of the US military at this point. Something to think about.

@mcnado

I agree wi5h your statements about death being accurate compared tonusual practices.

The assumption about excess death rate is a bit of a leap, we may find many other secondary effects that arent covid are at play to explain the difference.

I grew up back when all resteraunts had smotking sections. As if smoking on the other side of the room made it safe.

Interesting fact of the day. USA isnt just the wealthiest country in the world. it is the wealthiest by a huge margin.

Here are the numbers:

Total household wealth by country:
United States (30.8%)
China (18.6%)
Japan (5.0%)
Germany (3.8%)
United Kingdom (3.5%)
France (3.5%)
India (3.4%)
Canada (2.5%)

That puts the USA well ahead of even China, the second largest.

For comparison USA has 50% more total household wealth than all of Europe combined.

"I'm not a materialist. Love and friendship is reward enough."

Oh, wait, I don't have those things either...

I have had some good times as an adult but it was always money that facilitated it, indirectly. I paid for travel to see people or to have them come see me. One of my exes lived with me for free while I worked. Another I wouldn't have met without travelling abroad. I'm losing contact with people over money.

It's not so interesting to own things, but experiences often cost money, and I do want those. You can also use money to improve your health and looks.

It would make more sense to be non-materialistic if I had many non-material assets, such as confidence, a great personality, good looks, a loving family, or a good contact network.

My main non-material asset is just my intellect though, and the main reward you can get in return for that alone is money and status.

@AmpBenzScientist

You do realize that doesnt advance your argument that the numbers were over-reported?

As was pointed out the numbers have consistently be shown to be more or less accurate. In fact if anything they were likely underreported.
