@TapiOh yes let's just ban every site that thinks differently from you. That's _fantastic_ for democracy.

@chemelia that songs actually like 10 years old, but yes, it's very good. I recommend their song "Time to Pretend" as well

@Moon if you're feeling overwhelmed, my advice is to unplug and focus on your locus of control. You can't control what politicians do, but you can stock up on dried foods, read a book, write down some contingency plans, and exercise.

On Pleroma: sudo -Hu pleroma pg_dump pleroma > pleroma.psql

Then copy the file to your computer with rsync or scp or something.

@thoughtcriminal I actually saw an avenue for a peaceful transition of power before this happened. Now it seems like they've kicked a hornet's nest ☹️

@tedu the goal probably isn't to get unbanned, but to rile up their base for the mass suppression of information.

@arossp echo chamber amplification is not something to rejoice.

@debugninja@banana.dog it's because there are no machine learning algorithms designed to maximize engagement here.

@freemo what are your thoughts on my ass's highly technical statical analysis of the chances of rioting and war now? 💩

@Orakel it happens to me a lot too. I think some people have different goals and expectations with social media. Some interact to exist within an echo chamber, while others are contrarian and like to question different groups on why they behave a certain way. People in the former group tend to block people in the latter.

@GasGasGas it would do a few things. It would signal to trump that he has very little support. It would force politicians to publicly state what side they're on during a period that Trump's popularity tanked. And it would remove military powers from a man who has the potential to start a large civil war.

@seanking why? That would increase our capacity to meaningfully influence the government.

@cowanon I may be retarded, but at least I'm not a cow! Check out these thumbs 👍👍

If there ever was a time to not make "Gargleon Deez-Nuts" jokes, this would be it, lol

@rigatonimonster lol! I might have ruined it, I just don't find any purpose in trolling. 😀

@rigatonimonster racism is inseparably ingrained in the structural issues I am talking about, there is no doubt about that. I was responding to someone who said "A legitimate coup attempt came out of a black man becoming president and embarrassing a rich white man." As if it's all about race.

I can see why he would think that way. I'm sure his experience as a black man is very different from my own. But as I said before, blaming major structural issues on single causes is part of why things are so extreme right now.

Racism needs to be addressed, it is serious. But so are those other issues I mentioned, and they (arguably) drive our problems just as much as it.
