@Alberg be sure you're ready. It doesn't hurt to have food, water, medications, and emergency plans.
@emsenn "So what are /you/ doing to make up the difference?" What do you mean by this?
@awethon @valleyforge trouble here is that industries that depend on network effects tend to form monopolies or duopolies. In such an environment, those companies gain an undue influence on the overton window of the entire society. That's no good.
@freemo @icedquinn @allison I'm not being hyperbolic here, there's a lot of information warfare going on right now. You might be sure you have recent backups and prepare for more surges.
@boobs_idiot like everything, it'll depend on the person. As a masculine man, it personally makes me uncomfortable. I feel pressure to reciprocate but don't want to.
@Defectivetrxgedy the global south can have their own media and write their own blogs. There's nothing stopping them.
@drbitcoinmd there's no algorithmic feed designed to maximize engagement. That's why it's so much less stressful.
The echo chamber thing is an issue, but then it's an issue on Twitter too.
@info_activism how many times did BLM activists mention damaging or attacking federal buildings?
@trumpet I deleted my root comment so your users don't get confused. Have a good one! Sorry for the confusion
@nate_river @lolitasyndrome "The vast majority of MAPs are against relationships with children and would not advocate that kind of thing." They aren't currently. I'm just afraid of what will happen in several years if it's allowed.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Thank you for staying respectful.
@trumpet its even in qoto's rules to be tolerant and respectful.
@trumpet no no, I personally am tolerant. Racism is bad, discrimination is bad, yada yada. But rules forcing that is a limit on free speech.
@mindslaver @trumpet what kind of doublespeak is this? "Censorship is freedom."
Again I'm not shitting on you guys for rules. They're necessary in a forum. But its not free speech.
@nate_river @lolitasyndrome "The fact that the relationship between children and adults is something we should not defend is not an excuse for not supporting maps" you are technically true here, but the trouble with social media is that it tends to expand the norms and boundaries of acceptable behavior within groups.
Look at gay rights. It changed to LGB rights. Then LGBT. Now its LGBTQIA+, and is now pushing towards not even gendering children.
@nate_river it's sexual deviancy. Deviant because it's harmful to society if acted out.
I've said it before. I feel sorry for MAPs, it must suck a lot. But they shouldn't have the capacity to form support structures amongst themselves, because the harmful fringes of the group will inevitably take over sometimes.
When we see something on the news that we know about, we always think "That's not right!" We then forget about that and believe everything else we see.
