Hello #ScienceMastadon #AcademicMastadon Just wondering if there is anyone else out there who is involved in medical imaging research? I am currently a bioinformatician using RNA-seq data to investigate cellular ageing, but I'm also a qualified diagnostic radiographer and will soon be starting a postdoc in medical imaging. I am especially interested in utilising my quite diverse experience to bring together genetics and imaging to improve medical diagnostics. Would love to connect with anyone who is interested in this area of research or who works in medical imaging in general! 😀 #bioinformatics #genetics #rna #radiography #medicalimaging #medicine
Hey journalists! Mastodon is not a “platform”. Platforms were invented in the wake of the last financial crisis to consolidate power among specific companies by mining people of of their personal data for profit online. Mastodon does not consolidate, only connects. It does not amplify algorithmically, or mine people. Any “learning curve” should include reflection on why you ever accepted “services” aimed at data extraction as “natural” or even “social” to begin with. #twittermigration
#introduction – I'm a 🧬 #biology student primarily interested in #bioinformatics, #phylogenetics, #evolution, #mycology and #botany. 🧬 🍄
I'm also a #tech enthusiast, #Linux user and #freesoftware advocate. My distribution and desktop of choice are #Fedora and #Sway. I dabble in #coding in #Python and #Bash. 💻️ 🐧
I enjoy science #podcasts and #scifi, mainly #DoctorWho. 🎧️ 🛸
Forgot to do an #introduction in my excitement to be here.
Right now I have a few work hats: as a Senior Advisor to the Director of NHGRI, I lead projects needed by the institute, and this year that's establishing #evaluation of our grants and programs.
As an Associate Investigator, I lead the Engagement Methods Unit (EMU), my small lab focused on #genetic literacy (paper out soon!), #autism #genetics and #genomics, highlighting #ableism, and measuring effectiveness of #scicomm.
👋🏻 y'all!
#introduction toot!
Hi, I am molecular biologist/asst prof at the Institute of #GeneticEpidemiology in Innsbruck, Austria. Working on #genomics of #lipoproteinA, a #cardiovascular risk factor that is regulated by a long, polymorphic #cnv and #SNPs hidden there. Using standard #molecularbiology, #ngs, #nanopore, #epidemiology and a bit of #bioinformatics. Always curious also about any other cvd epi things and interesting sequencing puzzles in the spare time.
@trinsec it is and it smells a bit funky too!!😂😻
My #introduction!
I am a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany. I have a lab, and we study host-microbe interactions, their #evolution, and their role in #ecosystem function and stability.
I care about #diversity, #creativity, and an #inclusive environment here on Mastodon and in #academia.

#introduction I am a bioinformatics post-doc at University of Exeter. I have an eclectic research history, everything from bacterial genomics to human statistical genetics. I am starting an independent fellowship in medical mycology in the new year. I live in beautiful Devon with my three kids, one spoilt cat and numerous fish. I love all things science, rugby, watersports, cats and dogs and anything that makes me chuckle!! #rugby #science #stem #bioinformatics #mycology #genomics #evolution #cats #dogs #devon #surfing #paddleboarding #sequencing #genetics #bigdata
@MitoRem hi mark, it’s Jamie harrison from exeter!! long time no see, how is life going?
Deadline 16 November: #postdoc position for someone interested in #microbiomes and #bioinformatics! Be part of a large team and compare a clinical #IBD cohort with a large general population cohort.
I wanted to advertise a postdoc position in beautiful Norwich, that is for 3+2 years.
We are looking for a bioinformatician, or someone who wants to become one. In the post we will investigate gut metagenomes using 3rd gen sequencing, deep learning, to investigate pan genomes and microbial adaptation, mostly using human gut time series of various host ailments.
Please retoot or send to interested parties, thanks!
