@skaly , to many want me and mine dead. There is zero chance I would want to date those people.
@ech @freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , the key word being "ostensibly". In actuality, people are not even reading the books, just complaining about them because it uses a word they don't like, or has content they don't like. They are pushing a nanny state trying to subvert the rights of parents.
Now, I don't disagree with all book bans. I feel Utah was right to limit access to the Bible, for example. I think Penthouse letters volumes I through VI should not be in classrooms. I think Camp of the Saints probably shouldn't be in ANY public library, for any ages.
I would say there are few reasonable cases being made by those in favor of book bans. Because those reasonable cases are all ready in place. You can't walk into a single public school in America and expect to find The Turner Diaries. Or the Anarchist Cookbook.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , that's a conversation I couldn't understand, because I lack the experience of being in the Netherlands long enough to be able to understand the change in environment. But I am fully aware of my limitation, in a theoretical way. To turn this back a bit, I was NOT capable of understanding the theoretical limitations that other English speakers wouldn't know about the dangers of Florida to education, and gay folks.... I will have to work on that.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I really have to think about this post.... It's an interesting observation you have made, and my 1st thought was to dismiss it. But I live in the land of the blind, and the one-eyed kid would be king.... And obviously, to me, insane.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I love it when someone becomes self aware of what you noticed... Ya, we are, as a nation, nuts.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , Ya, I get that. For being the creators of the internet, Americans seem to be the most insulated from the best benefits of the system. The existence of reality. I blame a lack of classes on critical thinking... But, this attitude of mine is bad too, because then I assume everywhere else in the world is BETTER informed....
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I don't doubt your intentions. I have watched your interactions for about 8 months now, since I joined this instance. I doubt MY observations of another person a few days back, someone I did not know, who I assumed was arguing without good faith, to 'win the internet'. The similarities were, looking at the two conversations, blatant. I am questioning now, based on your conversation, if I was too quick to judge. Second guessing myself. It seemed to me that everyone should be directly aware of the book bannings, the anti trans legislation, etc, that states like Florida are imposing, and how miserable the state is becoming. This discussion defused my opinion of a guy who I pretty much KNEW was sealioning me.
So, I am attempting to return the favor.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , semi impartial observer here (you can decide after my post). Just a couple days ago I had a very similar experience, and I was fairly sure the guy was just being a dick. The same topic, florida book banning. I found the questions to be intentionally obtuse to the point of being harassing. I feel fairly sure that there was miscommunication with my conversation, and there is similar with yours. As I read this exchange, I am reexamining my conversation with different eyes.
@ElleGray , my mother just adopted a diabetic one eyed cat which she named Grebo.
@MirrorAyako @allstartrek , I feel seen.
"Ptolemy 1st Soter, first king of Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great, personally sponsored Euclid, but found Euclid's seminal work, the Elements, too difficult to study, so he asked Euclid to show him an easier way to master it. According to the philosopher Proclus, Euclid famously quipped: "Sire, there is no royal road to geometry."
It is noteworthy, that Euclid didn’t use the word odos = road but the word atrapos = trail, by which a short-cut is meant."
I had more than enough entitled people today. If you want to learn something, demanding others teach you isn't going to get you far.
@ThisPlaceAgain , my gods... you are right. How did I miss that?
@ThisPlaceAgain Not enough giant chickens either.

@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social , I see the problem as the court saying that the companies can stack the deck and sue over ANY costs. It doesn't look like the workers or the union did anything to enhance the concrete hardening, and they knew they were operating without a valid contract, and still ordered the concrete to be made.
@LouisIngenthron @Pat Incredibly easy to tell if I am a troll. Trolls don't block people.
@LouisIngenthron @Pat , Well I guess you can learn what it means in this context:
BS in Physics. Will not tolerate hate. I am active here and on Post.
