And congrats to anyone documenting and/or refactoring/simplifying its code. This is not a wasted time! You are helping #OpenScience and reproducibility🚀

Which governance instruments can we employ to promote #OpenScience? Based on the pyramid of #CultureChange by @briannosek here are governance instruments that can encourage researchers to engage in two important practices of open science: documenting and sharing research #data. https://renebekkers.wordpress.com/2022/11/09/governance-instruments-to-promote-open-science/
@trinsec yeah let's do some #tootorials ! I might make threads about #FijiSc #bioimageanalysis #microscopy or #diy in the future! Anything like this ThreadReader yet for the fediverse?
@LauLauThom Wonder if it can be renamed to 'tootorial' later? ;)
Who's around to transform #ScienceTwitter 🐦 into #ScienceMastodon? 🐘
Just because it is Monday morning and the #TwitterMigration is still going on, it may be worth repeating that #science would do well to replace their antique journals with modern technology:
https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5526634
The three most important reasons why:
- The most prestigious journals publish the least reliable science:
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2018.00037/full
- Journal prices are tenfold inflated:
https://f1000research.com/articles/10-20/v2
- Open infrastructures for research data, code, models, software, etc. are sorely missing.
Interesting and was the occasion to learn that so-called tweetorial can also be read on a dedicated page thanks to @threadreaderapp 😮😀

Ok, here starts a little tweetorial on everything you should know on 'Gamma Correction" and why it matters... https://twitter.com/loicaroyer/status/1284220315103449089

How to move to Mastodon.
1. Choose a server (I know, it is hard, you don't have enough info!). I'll include a post at the end about popular servers for scientists. It's easy to move if you don't like the one you start on. Join on the page for your server.
#OnThisDay 155 years ago, the first woman to receive a Nobel prize was born: Marie Skłodowska-Curie!
Today, the @MSCActions@twitter.com 🇪🇺 fellowship bears her name and helps young scientists in their research.
We will keep supporting them towards a better future for our next generations.
Since a lot has happened lately, it could be a good time to re-do an #introduction / #introductions.
As a political sociologist I work with text, digital methods & film on matters of #security, #counterterrorism & #surveillance, from a critical perspective.
I currently run the project @securityvision on the politics of computer vision with amazing media artists/designers/visual anthropologists: Ruben van de Ven (@r), Cyan Bae, Ildikó Plájás & Elka Smith.
At Leiden University I'm trying to promote research through making (#film, #photography, #art & other methods) at @recntr, together with Mark Westmoreland and Julian Ross.
I geek out on photo & cinema #cameras & #lenses as well as #floss and #coding, although more from the outside. Working on my first "hello world" in #python
I'm likely to post on #security #computervision #biometrics #facialrecognition #masssurveillance #privacy #technology #film #cinema #multimodality #academia
#open #access #book on scientific visualization (#python + #matplotlib) at https://github.com/rougier/scientific-visualization-book (don't buy the book from Amazon)
You can now read and engage with news and information about 🇪🇺 EU policies, in a privacy-focused environment and with no transfer of data outside the EU.
This initiative is part of an EU pilot for supporting and using social media platforms based on open-source software.

I wrote a nano tool that tries to extract the #Fediverse accounts of your #Twitter followings: https://fedifinder.glitch.me/
It searches for the patterns @user@host.tld, user@host.tld and host.tld/@user in the screen name, description, location and URL field. It displays them to you in the correct format for easy copying as well as a CSV download that can be imported to #Mastodon.
Known issue: Mail addresses are included as false positives because people write their handle without a leading @: name@host.tld
Checked the #Patreon page for #Mastodon again just now. We are tantalizingly close to the current fundraising goal, with $11,375 of $12,000 raised. Join me in donating. We can hit the target easily if enough of the #twittermigration #twexit #influx chip in. Let's get @Gargron and team to $12k per month.

@kristinmbranson While this gives much more flexibility on the format, I would be worried about the energy footprint of having so many screens on for multiple hours. Especially since last generations screens (like 4K) have typically higher energy consumption. I also see the risk to attract more people with visually appealing content, rather than good science, which was readily possible with posters, but even more with digital content !
Originally from Brittany in France, I studied in Strasbourg and I am now living in Germany, close to Heidelberg.
While my initial training was in biotechnology, I am now mostly doing software development (C#/Java) for a living. I am dealing with image-processing / #BioImageAnalysis / data-handling, and working with community software such as #FijiSc, python and #KNIME.
