@D_J_Nathanson Quote from the first article: "Per passenger, a flight from Auckland to Wellington will put a similar amount of carbon dioxide into the air as driving solo in your car."

The second article doesn't seem to have anything comparing aircraft vs cars, but it does have graphs showing that passenger air traffic has grown by roughly 6% every year, and yet the GHG emission from fuel was *less* in 2016 than it was in 1990.

Finally, check out this United States Department of Energy graph showing that airlines are more fuel-efficient than any non-rail ground travel option: afdc.energy.gov/data/10311

@Extra_Special_Carbon Okay :eyeroll: 🤦‍♂️ . But keep in mind that in many states, gun registries don't exist, and in some, they're expressly outlawed.

So, you better get ready for your mandatory drug test too, because the state usually doesn't know who owns guns.

@D_J_Nathanson When you're talking about private jets, I totally agree.

But when you split up the climate costs of a commercial jet between all its passengers, and compare that to the carbon produced by enough cars to carry them on the same route, I think the ratio flips.

@Extra_Special_Carbon Sounds a lot like Texas' argument that women could just "not have sex" to avoid having their bodily autonomy violated.

@nus@mstdn.social True, and that is less-than-ideal and could use tuning, but the overall concept of a law banning drug addicts from buying guns still seems pretty sound.

@shekinahcancook@babka.social And violate their bodily autonomy?

@nus@mstdn.social ...sure they would. Even us gun owners and 2A advocates recognize that a prohibition on selling guns to those who are addicted to crack is a good law to have.

@Ttown That doesn't override federal laws, though, right? You still have to fill out the FBI background check form at the FFL when buying?

When I was younger, I watched the Blade movies and didn't much care for them.

Now I'm giving them another shot and wondering what the hell was wrong with younger me.

@JasonPerseus True.

That said, I kind of hope my pride flag provokes this kind of outrage from the Trump supporters in my neighborhood. Because, when it's not a SCOTUS justice, it's pretty funny.

Since the Kerbal franchise appears to have been murdered by corporate greed, I'm seriously considering trying to found an "Open Space Program" that would be designed to be open-source and moddable...

@interfluidity You're describing the guiding philosophy of libertarianism.

Or, at least, libertarianism before it was co-opted by bigoted right-wing trolls.

@jvagle I used to be in that same camp. I also hate the term "hallucination".

But, I've come around on the first point. Machines can do math better than I can. That alone is pretty darn intelligent.

BREAKING: Federal judge rules that Florida’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors and many of its restrictions on similar adult care are unconstitutional. More to come at Law Dork. lawdork.com/

@skye Same way as glasses do. They bend the light to trick your eye into thinking it's far away.

@Alice Yep. I especially couldn't resist that impulse when buying these:

@interfluidity Honestly, notepad is pretty solid imo.

The next level up would probably be something like VS Code or Notepad++. They might be a little overkill, but they'll leave room to grow.

@theslik Hmmm... it just happened again.

Weirdly, the mouse kept moving fine, so the screen *was* refreshing okay. But nothing responded. No clicks, no keypresses, no ctrl-alt-f3s. The only thing it responded to was me holding the power button for 10 seconds.

In this case, it was caused by trying to launch the Unity Editor on an empty project.
